Luxilon ALU POWER Spin
Published (2009-11-26 22:43:00)
I used it last year, and didn't like it.... But I don't break Luxilon as fast as the string breakere like Jolly, so Luxilon strings are not for me anyway. like all other Luxilon strings it played nice for the first 2 hours, then Ok for the next 3 hours, then felt like a Stiff board. Cut it out and changed to other CoPolys with better elasticity and tension maintenance. Also tried it in a hybrid with nat gut crosses and nat gut mains...

using lux with TE

If you have TE, I would avoid all polys. Try some other multis other than Sensation to see if they work any differently for you or try some different tensions with your Sensation.

Many multifilament strings fray (it's due principally to the way they're constructed), including natural gut. Some people are bothered by this more than others; mostly, it's a matter of more or less. Try out Tecnifibre's XR3, though, or Babolat's Xcel, which has a feel close to that of K-Gut.

using lux with TE

16 and TE? geez.......I would have someone take a long hard look at your technique. Hit with a laid back wrist and use a 2hand backhand if possible. And take Ibuprofen AFTER you play.....not before. Studies have show taking it before you have pain or inflamation hurts you more than helps you. Stay away from Poly. Technique will get you spin MUCH faster than Poly. Maybe try switching from Eastern to Semi Western grip. Keep turning that right...

Published (2009-11-25 10:08:00)
I prefer individual packs over reels because I never end up with a string that is too short. Sooner or later if you try to cut corners and only 36' 7" (or whatever) of string you are going to end up short. I would rather spend a little bit more to get more than enough string. But one point I would like to say about reels that I like is there is less recoil or memory in string that comes on reels. I guess because it is not wound...

Going full with new copolys

I play with a full bed of MSV Hex and I love it. If the poly bothers your arm you can lower the tension.

I had a lot of trouble with the 1.23 breaking prematurely. I quit carrying it. I now get the 1.28, and have had no problems so far. As for the 1.18, I don't know how well it will hold up. I really like the feel of SPPP for a poly though.

Call me hasty but I would hope that you were exaggerating to make a point and that you hit more than 5 of each stroke with each particular string?
Assuming that you did only hit a few balls around, Multi and Synthetic Gut have entirely different characteristics when it comes to stringing. Each has different stretch capabilities and tension retentions no to mention setting time when it comes...

The tornado and hyperion are my choices from what you have listed.
Tornado is twisted or spiral like a tornado for maximum spin and the hyperion is just that with out the twist.
Don't know much about SPPP.
TBC is another which will rival the tornado. but i like both for comfort and spin.

I use vinyl surgical gloves when I string poly. It's thin enough to get the
touch and yet provide sufficient protection.

That is a little unusual, but not out of the question. I've seen guys that a hybrid of poly/syn gut lasted longer than a full poly job. The gauge of the strings matters a good bit too.

I would string your next racquet with a simple synthetic gut, such as PSG, or Wilson Extreme, etc at the midpoint of your racquet's tension range. If you want, you can also try to test your sensitivity to tension. String two racquets with the same string (like prince synthetic gut), one 5 pounds more than the other. Mark each racquet in a not-very-visible way (like maybe underneath an ...

Amusing read...but seriously I have been wanting to try some non tennis string in my racket for a while now. Squash string is something I have looked into a lot, but none of the strings are rated for tensions as high as I would be using (55 lbs) so I would imagine they would just snap when stringing. Has anyone actually successfully tried squash/badminton string at a tension in the 50's. ...

Xcel Power....so that you can tell me how it plays because I want to hybrid
my set of BC with that. Looks like you like stiff strings on both your
mains and crosses, hopefully someone will chime on with a better response.

The softest string I have used is a multifilament you can get in UK, it has great feel and decent elasticity, I find it more control orientated than powerful but its main distinctive quality is its lush soft feel. Its called Cordatec Matchplay or a similar one is Maxi-Gut (they both v similar) Its also really cheap (?30 reel).
He sells worldwide, might be worth the shipping charge to playtest.

Not surprising to me at all.
I find natural gut to be way over-hyped. I don't think its performance justifies its cost. I can get better feel from some multis that are way cheaper.

Try the new MSV HEPTATWIST, It's a very good CoPoly - better than MSV focus Hex in my view.
FYI - I hate both Pro Hurricane and Pro Hurricane Tour

I can sympathize with you. I bought my stringer just to string "my own" racquets - about 5-6 years later and I've probably strung about 4,000 racquets...maybe 100 of those times it was my own (if I'm being generious).

There is an 18 g- Klip Legend. It's really a 17g, but it's 1.20 mm, so go figure.
You restring with NG when you break it.
I have a NG/multi hybrid in my racket right now (first time user), and it's been fine for a month of hitting. I expect it to last for another 3,4 months.

Can you please tell me in which photo you see the gap?
I?m watching the clamp and really don?t see a gap. But I have an untrained eye, so I might be missing it. The only doubt I had was about the handle pressure (and jaws). Now you say I got a bad copy because of gaps... this starting clamp is falling apart! I guess a big test is needed with this clamp to be sure.

Tension loss is one issue, loss of elasticity is another. When the strings are in tension, they lose their resiliencey and elasticity. This is what people mean when they say strings are "dead". Old strings are generally dead.
This "deadness", aside from offering rather poor playing characteristics, can mean significantly more shock and vibration (of a different frequency) is transferred to ...
