Tips for middle part of Tom Sawyer?

First, put the nome away. You have to learn it without time, first. Here's how I do it. Start with index finger, A on the D string. Then the F# with your pinkie, on the A string. Ab with index on the D string. E on the A string, with middle finger. Step down to the D, still on the A string, with index. Now all that's left is the B to C#, which I do with my pinkie, on the E string. Slide your pinkie up to make the B to C# slide(every...

Note definition at high tempos

Ok so to try and put a different perspective on things my setup is as follows, warwick infinity 5, mids boosted( its naturally very mids voiced anyway) --> splitter box-- into both inputs of 400+ Parametric Eq both treble and bass at 0 and mids at 10 "ie set as flat" I have the push pull on the bass pulled and the graphic eq engaged on amp with a mids boost. The 810 is a newer model Jimmy- towards the end of the made...

Comfortable String Gauge Question.
Published (2009-12-06 18:12:00)
I was in the situation with my current band that I began to wonder if I was really suited to a 5 string. I rarely, if ever required to go lower than low D, perhaps for just one song we no longer play. I now have gone back to 4 strings and use a hipshot D-tuner for those drop D tunes. I'm wondering if this may be worth considering in your situation?

I never stretch. I play slow tunes and ballads which are not going to be technically demanding or stressing. In this way, I warm up both my hands, and also my brain and musicality all at the same time.
Occasionally, I will noodle around on some exercizes and just pluck around, depending on my mood. But stretching? Never.

Of course it has an impact!
They say that simply becoming aware of something is the first step to improving it or incorporating into our playing.
In your case your awareness extends beyond the instrument you're playing and encompasses the music in general: Melody Rhythm Harmony.

When an excessive amount of notes becomes detrimental to the song.
Playing a lot of notes in itself isn't bad, sometimes it works fine.

I'd diagnose it as likely a form of Raynaud's Syndrome or Phenomenon.

I've had it my whole life. It made it 'difficult' for an Iowa farm boy growing up in the midwest with chores to do like splitting wood and taking care of animals in sub-zero weather during the winter. But often it would also show itself when swimming or other ...

What about using your thumb to fret the notes on the low E? Then your fingers are already free to move. It's not exactly orthodox and I might get roasted for the suggestion, but it might be an option. Also, what about playing over top of the neck instead of under?

Absolutely not a waste of time for the reasons you give, I would recommend it to anyone as the best ear training you can get - play along to the TV, the radio, anything you can get your hands on!!. Once you get the sloppy root notes/end fills down then you can try and come up with the nice lines that will fit :-)
As a teenager during the school holidays I'd spend my days playing along to a...

as a lefty who plays a right handed bass, I have to agree with MGR on this one
i guess my reasoning is that both hands require a certain amount of dexterity, so it is just a matter of just picking a bass and developing that way. Heck, I can give you names of famous right handed players, leftys playing right handed, leftys playing left handed, and leftys playing right handed upside down...i ...

This is from way out in left field, mate, and I don't if it will be helpful but I suggest listening to some music that is drumless to hear how others do it.
Some examples:
Michael Manring w. acoustic guitarist David Cullen on the excellent CD "Equilibre";
Eddie Gomez w. Bill Evans on the CDs "Montreaux III" and "Intuition";
Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen w. Joe Pass on the CDs ...

There's probably already threads that deal with the issue, but here's my 2 cents...
Go out and buy a book of cello excercises...pick one that has a lot of notes (and is mostly written in bass clef). Bass instructional books tend to have fewer notes (you know, bass parts). If you just want a ton of notes to read, a cello book might be better.
You could also potentially just write a ...
