Min-humbuckers for bass?

The first thing that comes to mind are stacked pickups. The idea was to build a traditional humbucker, but lay them vertically instead of horizontally. No comments on their tonality, though, as I've never knowingly dealt with one.

IIRC some Sadowsky pickups are made by DiMarzio. Both of their J models are well-liked. My only experience is with the "Ultra-Jazz" model, which IME gives a very delicious, "scooped" modern tone. I've paired those with an Aguilar OBP-1 which IIRC is designed by the same crew that did the Sadowsky pre. Similar concept, too - 2-band, boost only. That combination can be pretty killer (especially run 18V)...

Ha! That's really cool. I was going to say something sarcastic, but that's actually a really cool idea...
One thing to consider is that your sustain would probably suffer, since the string is now getting pulled by four times the magnets!

Joey's Bass Notes always is a great resource when it comes to Rickenbacker basses.
Glad you found the issue and fixed it.

Are you wanting to just change the preamp? I've heard good things about the Glockenklang preamps.

I'm not sure if you are talking about building an onboard preamp from scratch or buying one. I can't help you build one but would reccomend against it as there are many wonderful real-world tested pres out there. ie.
BARTOLINI
AGUILAR
JOHN EAST
ACG (FILTER)
GLOCKENKLANG
DELANO
NORDSTRAND
EMG

pickups will get you some of the way there, but good preamps should be transparent, so ideally no diff.
the rest is wood and design. i once put EMGs into a ken smith for a customer trying to get away from the smith tone, only to have it still sound just like a ken smith.

They are single coil pick up's. They are pretty quiet but, you will get
some noise when either pick up is solo'ed.

Stacked pots and wannabe MM humbucker pickup came in yesterday from ebay. Waiting on a new bridge and then I will start assembling the pieces and routing the body.
I did notice that the wires coming from the humbucker are different than I was expecting. Some I can figure out where they need to go, but one I am unsure of. I will post pics for help later today.

So I replaced the pots in my Fender Jazz bass. I used all CTS 250k pots and a .02uf PIO cap. The problem I'm having now is when both volume pots are at an equal level my bass loses all bass and sounds if the strings are just mic-ed. I'm stumped =/ I didn't do anything special with the wiring; two volume pots and one master tone. Each volume pot turned up separately sound great and work fine,...

Thanks for doing that. I prefer the Muy Grande too; one was on ebay recently.
IIRC SD's specs show the Ant (& II?) around 6.5K or less which made me think I'd never want one. Now I'm sure. Noting against SD, he just duplicated the originals.

It's possible, but you would need an 8P3T switch.
Honestly, wiring up the switch would be very complicated.
