Time to go. I have some last minute shopping to do. Happy Holidays to All! Be well and eat a lot of turkey. As I do every year, I am the one who prepares and cooks the whole meal. I'm quite good at it, now that I've learned well the right ways to cook.

Not sure how much theory you know after 6 months of playing, but are you aware of the difference between major pentatonic and minor pentatonic scales? Here they are:
G Major Pentatonic
G-A-B-D-E-G
G Minor Pentatonic
G-Bb-C-D-F-G
As a VERY ROUGH rule of thumb, the major pentatonic often works well for walking bass lines in the blues, and the minor pentatonic is good for getting...

First of all thank you for taking the time to write all this out. For a beginner such as myself I've been trying to find an effective way to learn and practice walking bass lines because I think they're so awesome. I'm most assuredly going to work this into my practicing as it'll help me to memorize my arpeggios as well.
Thanks agian

Try playing Space Cadet by kyuss, was originaly recorded on an acoustic bass, if i'm not mistaken. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgBgaaYnH6w
EDIT: Probably worth mentioning that the guy in the video plays a right hand bass upside down--without changing the strings around.

Hi guys.
So I'm at a music college and in a couple of weeks I have my exams, one of which is a solo performance which will involve some unprepared sight reading (I've never seen it before, I get 2 minutes to get it right).
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any decent websites that will be able to help me practice, it's just I've run out of material to read
Thanks if you can ...

I've been practicing how to slap bass for awhile, and well i have no teacher. So i'm mostly self taught, trying to also learn music theory at the same time. I confident in my walking bass lines, but now that i moved on to slap bass it just doesnt feel like the tone i produce matches those of i imitate. I'm confident i have the style and technique down, so does it just come down to the amp? ...

The D7b9 is simply the V7 of the Gm7 chord.

Depends in the size of the bass drum and the tension of the head. Ask your drummer, he should know.

Hi all,
I find that in improvising/coming up with lines, my hands only really ever want to use the 5th and octave intervals mostly. How should I work to change this effectively?
Thanks

No one was there to teach them how to avoid bad habits so they continue to
get better using bad or wrong technique, thus hindering them to further
advancement.

I would say try to learn music that interests you where you can make use of
the finger in question. Don't try to over-train it, and relax. It doesn't
take much force to use. It'll get there. Good luck!
