John Entwistle have to be there, clearly, He inovated bassplaying and sound at a time where nobody else realy was doing anything new.. I mean, Most of us, regardless of being a fan or not, carry somekinda inspiration from him. I am sad to say, I strongly dislike the guy and his music, But Jaco pastorius is also essential. ...And Larry Graham, for pionering slap.

Two words, Jauqo...subcontra upright...it would need to be about 15 feet big, though Ya, the Dempseys are pretty popular on rockabillybass.com. Slapping like that isn't nearly as easy as he makes it look. Neither are stunts. I always bust my ass doing stunts Great clip!

If my count's correct I'm #12: Akron/Cleveland-based Buckeye bassist here - I moved to Ohio from the NYC area to be with my extremely better half. I've mainly been focused on my own writing/recording project demoing at home, but I have a few stand-in gigs that I'm "on-call" for as well as a few solo bassist shows I've preformed for charity (mainly post-Katrina). Also always up for a ...

Most pianists hate Richard Clayderman and most saxophonists hate Kenny G (I do realized now that even some bassists do). So is there a bassist where every bassist would love to hate? VW? Edit: Have I just opened a can of worms?

Due to my 15 years as a guitarist before touching a bass for the first time, my left hand is very fast, but my right hand is slower. I can do the slap stuff, but when I use a pick, I sounds worlds better and can play very strong. My Q is, are there any top bassists who use a pick all the time?

Bass player for the Aggrolites has passed away. Never heard of him? That is your loss. We are all devastated by the loss of our dear friend and bandmate Dave Fuentes. We are extremely honored to have played with Dave during his last days. Dave was a big influence on every one of us for years, and for him to join us onstage and call himself an Aggrolite meant the world to us. No one ...

I watched a live Ben Harper concert last night on an HD channel I get and Juan was really good. I have some of the Harper stuff and like it but live the bass was great. He covers quite a bit technique wise and is very versatile because of that. I was blown away. I you haven't heard the guy you should. He embodies most of what I like in a bass player. He could do a lot more but usually ...

What exact compressor is he using? DBX 160 ... (?) A - XL - SL ? Also, I thought he also used, or used to use, a BOSS CS-1 (or CS-2). Does anyone know about this? Thanks, I'd like to know as a big Steve Harris fan.

As a producer Brenden O'Brien was perfect on this one. This is a very balanced mix, everything in it's place, yet everything seems to stand out on it's own - great, great, great work. On to the thread title, what do you suppose Cliff used for recording on this one? Stingray with flatrounds? mostly direct signal? primarily mic'd Ampeg? What do you think of the tone, like it? Hate it...

I've seen a few things here and there like liner notes or articles from 40 years ago that use the term "Fender Bass" but I don't know if that was a widespread kind of thing. Maybe some of our members that were playing back in the 60s could weigh in on the issue?
