Nostatic made some great points there. I always practice new things on fretted, I practice scales daily on the fretted. Unless I'm writing specifically for the Zon I always write on fretted. Just picked one up last night. It's AWESOME. A/B'd it against a few other Fenders and Squiers after handling every bass in the store. It just looks, feels and sounds great imho.
I didn't care for the VM with Duncan Designed, it felt too light and cheap, didn't have the same thump as the CV. The neck is glossy buy my hands don't stick to it at all. I messed around with it until the wee ...

For example, do you think the ash or the alder typically used in SX basses is heavier? I'm hoping for a lighter bass. Of course, there's the old tonewood question - have you SX users (who all own 10 of them) found correlations in their sound with regard to tonewoods?

If you are referring to the Fender branded hardshells made by G&G, then yes - barely.
