Before you get a sextet, do you need a whole set or do you need just a triplet set? I wouldn't go replacing all my power tubes if only one went out, that's for sure. I might replace 3 if I couldn't easily find a match for the one that went dead, but I'd never do all 6 for just one bad tube. 6550's ain't cheap.

I just went and spent an hour with my rig- 2 BE S15-Ds, an SWR SM-400 into a Crest power amp. I have got it where I can pretty well dig it, so I'm not in quite the state I was this morning! Just wish I'd figured this mess out before I went to an audition with it last night. Too bad. Gear is mostly a pain in the ass... maybe it's just the money part...

Regarding the crossover: Don uses three different crossovers for the fEarful style cabs. 1- Passinwind's old crossover in the wiki as the basis, ~700hz 3rd order up 2nd order down 2- Ralf's designed 800hz "ruler flat" crossover, I believe 3rd order down and up, but not sure 3- Don and Ralf's favorite, the 1200hz crossover with I believe some kind of zobel or something to correct for the peaks at that frequency...

I'd go for the taller one. There's no real benefit to having the speakers closer to the ground.

Orange (cheap) Amps & Hofner...
Published (2009-11-25 14:18:00)
Your best bet is to plug your Hofner into as many amps as you can find, and decide for yourself which sounds best. Any bass amp will work, there's no secret pairings that work better than others, and it's all very subjective. Your ears alone can make that choice.

You should be able to, sure. Don't know how it hooks up with 1/4" cables but you should be able to use the DI + impedance transformer at the very least.

Subscribed. Curious to hear other folks' thoughts since I'm sold on getting
that amp (which I'll be running into an Eden 210).

The germans are good but I am sure you can still find someone in the US to
change an op amp?

IME, while i think its a great speaker, i wasn't able to get a single
3015LF to push as much air, or handle as much power before farting out as a
pair of 3012LF's. YMMV

GK Neo 410 or GK Neo 212.
I suggest the 410 for punch and wattage handling.
212 can give warm sound. I actually had to check to make sure I didn't have a 410. Quite punchy 12s!

Take the drivers out and test them individually with a battery for voice
coil function. I suspect you'll find three of them dead.

2x12 by all means, especially if you'll be gigging. I've never been able to
get proper volume without distortion out of two tens or one twelve except
when playing low volume, small gigs.

The LMIII does not have a new limiter. It never made it to the final model.

Sweet.
I'm lovin' the depth of commitment to this project that's being exhibited by some of you guys. The "Cheap but Good" cross-overs are scratchin' me right where I itch.
Incidentally, I took delivery of a 3015LF and a ASD1001 this week. Still undecided on the mid. (I think I mentioned in the first thread that Loudspeakers Plus is the Canadian distributor for 18 Sound and they'll only ...

Have you tried an M-Pulse? Very tubey.
My MarkBass TA501 is fairly tubey-sounding. I like it a lot better than my 800RB.

God, what has music in today's market come to with Stoner Metal as a genre.
Troy Sanders uses Mesa
Jared Warren uses Sunn
No info on Jonathan Nuñez.

Why do you only want a 610 or 412? It might be worth talking to LDS and
seeing what they suggest as well.
