I have no helpful suggestions, but has anyone heard of a product called SuperClot to stop bleeding? I just heard about it this morning and Googled. Its supposed to have a numbing agent also.

Dont use the neosporin until someone else for sure knows if it is safe, I dont know if it is. I know others used a ointment or cream of something before but cant remember what it was. Maybe if you call the vet they can tell you if its safe or not. I hope its just a sore foot from the nail and nothing else.

I have recommended he contact his regular vet just to see if they have any ideas. I've just not heard or seen of this problem before. I'll keep everyone posted. For now, Joy seems to be doing well. From what I hear, he's very sweet and friendly and the vet couldn't believe how tame he was.

I heard about sprout seed before, but I wasn't sure. I will try it, it seems a good transition. One of the seed mix I use has some dried berrys, but I'm unsure if he eats them...I see that dried berries and fruits are also ok. Well I admit it, I have to try harder as well. It seems I will start dining on beans in front of my lovie :-))

be careful with the toe. my tiel had his toe caught in the cage door and cut the skin off it down to the bone (he did it while we were sleeping so we didnt hear anything). if you see the toe start to discolour, the wound start to fester or seep or the bird is in far too much pain or not using the foot well or at all vet straight away! Sere ended up having to have his toe removed but it was worth it because if it hadve healed (which it didnt)...

Where on Vancouver Island are you? If you're right in Victoria, I can recommend Glenview Animal Hospital. They are avian certified and are incredible there.

Sammy is a horror for fresh foods. a lot of young birds are.
He loves wheatgrass and you can actually grow it in you ktichen and let him eat it after a couple of days
you can also sprout seeds which improves their nutritional value and he'll recognise them. Plus you could always puree/mash veggies or fruit and sprinkle his seed on top. Even lovies cant pick the seeds out without some ...

First of all congratulations. Not many people would take a bird in such a situation and transform it to the bird in the second photo. Very few of us had ever had birds in such a bad condition and now you have what most of us own.
As far as it concerns biting...It's a problem for sure. Have in mind that lovies are known to be nippy either as a part of simply misbehaving or due to deeper reasons...

Hi and welcome to the site. It could be hurting her because of the toenail being broken off because when they would take blood from boomer they would cut his toenail super short to get it to bleed and then use quick stop to stop the bleeding. Boomer would hold his foot up for days after they did this, sometimes even 4 days like your Pica. I would worry about infection too, did you wash the foot ...

Re: Lovebird picking tailfeathers
i think persevere with the collar. Try padding the inside of it with vet tape so it cant rub her skin, and cutting a cover out of cotten, so she can still chew something.
Just until they are all in and stop the itching.

Emily I am so sorry you and your flock have to go through all this. You are very strong for keeping Willow alive and happy this long. I'm sure she knows what a wonderful parront you are and is very grateful for all that you have done.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope that you don't ever have to go through this again *hugs*.
