Safe ways of heating a room
Published (2009-12-15 15:53:00)
It isn't any specific type of heater from what I can tell that is unsafe - it is whether or not it has teflon in it. PTFE (teflon) is used for coating on a lot of heaters, of all types. Also hairdryers, etc. Even the heat lamps sometimes have it on it. You'll have to call the companies and ask specifically if they use it or not... unless you can find a list of no-teflon heaters. I googled and couldn't find a list, but a more...

Clipping wings

I don't think I will ever clip Cisco wings. They have never been clipped and he is very loyal to me. Never flies away and still runs to my shoulder. I have only had him for 3-4 months old, and he is about 6 months old.

I also had the cage suspended on a hook and chain (see Avatar) when I had one tiel. This gave me peace of mind from jumping cats when I may have been in another area of the house and may be something to look at in your situation if your bedroom door is opened when you are not home and a cat or dog gets in without someone being aware.

Filing Daisey's Beak
Published (2009-12-07 21:30:00)
The only idea I have is to go back to the vets and ask them to show you how to do it and then hopefully they will also let you do it in front of them so they can give you pointers on doing it right. If she is willing to let you do it without trouble once you really know how to do it I think it may not be that hard on both of you. Personally I would have been rather afraid filling boomers beak and definitely I wouldn't do it with a dremel,...

Yeah, they showed me in the office but it was all happening so quick and I was more focused that day on how to give medication and of course, they do things with such ease. Argh!

How to get my tiel in its bath
Published (2009-12-08 17:22:00)
Mr. Pepper will not go anywhere near his bath. So I normally just get a spray bottle, put it to were it will mist and spray it alittle above his head so its like its raining and he seems to love it that way. The only problem with that is my hand normally gets tired before he is done taking a bath.

i would add that you spend as much time with him as possible since you will be the only memeber of the "old familiar flock" he has been used to that he will have now; and white noise, radio, tv, something if you will be leaving him alone.

I have horizontal bars on the sides, and verticals on the front and back of ours. Our birds all cope really well with it. They've learnt to climb up and slide down the verticals to get to where they want to go. =) You can also put in ladders to help them climb up. It's very hard to find one with all horizontal bars. I don't think I've seen any here like that.

For your mum's allergy to his claws - have you tried trimming them and seeing if that helps? I have sensitive skin, and when our two's claws get a bit long, then they can cause me to come up in a rash where they've perched on my hand or bare skin, but just trimming the tip off any time it starts to get sharp really helps to eliminate it for me. =) I guess Robert's around 9 - 10 months old (...

Safe ways of heating a room It's very cold here tonight, the house is generally warm the heating is on and the house is well insulated but some rooms are still a tad chilly. Poor girl! Do you have pellets? You could moisten them into a mash - kind of like formula, and offer it to her. It would probably be easier for her to eat till she can get her beak trimmed.

Hmmm, this might be worth a shot: have you tried a white noise machine? It has helped with my guys- not totally eliminated yelling, but cut down on it. Part of the reason, I think, is this: mine were loud when I put them in the cage while I am home. With the machine on, they can't hear me so they don't react. I leave it on all day now while I am at work. It has different noises - rainstorm, ...

Nyms chewing on a seed husk and Seres poking at a toy... mind you i have a grate on the bottom of the cage so they dont have access to poop unless it gets stuck to the bars. do you have a grate on yours? or do they have access to the waste tray?

What do you do after she bites you? Look at her, talk to her, that sort of thing? It sounds like she could be bored and doing it for attention. Keep some foot toys and small foraging toys around for her where you are to keep her occupied.
