Supply Crates, The real enemy? -...

The best use for a supply crate is accidentally dropping it on top of a tank and somehow have the tank go flying off into space, destroying the walker that's in its path.

Squad leader does not have to take point if they make effective use of waypoints and verbal orders. Having competent squad members that understand your objectives is helpful. Example: "We are attacking statue, we will move up the east ramp here (place waypoint) then move to cover here (place another waypoint). I will stay behind cover here (place waypoint) as a spawn location. When the squad is moving over a meaningful distance, say...

In close quarters I will still find rockets/herzog to be a much better use than smoke/radar grenades.

There are quite a few threads dealing with this already. The top pilots are using v.sensitive mouse settings. You can also use arrow keys. If you want to understand evasive maneuvers, jump in a gunship and flip upside down, then try and right yourself. Basically flip every which way you can think of, and you'll start to understand what you can do in a dogfight.

Well, no offense to your friend, he needs to grow up. The knife is a viable weapon but I much prefer anything else to it. When Im out of rockets, voss, pistol, grenades, and my defib is overheated then I take out my knife but that is only because everything else has longer attack ranges. It is viable and can be used effectively with sniper kit but I think everyone will agree, a knife is not ...

Supply crates are just little presents from God that fall from the sky that is better to have around you than on top of you. Seriously, they're a medic, engy and re-supplier all in one, that's incredibly useful, especially when setting up a defence. 1 situation I always use it as CO on Gibraltar defence is at Toll, directly South West of the flag, just West of the Rorsch. It lands quick enough...

The idea is interesting. I definitely would like to see more dynamic squad play. However, something I think is fixed is the "SL is a dictator" - keeps things simple. Sure, suggestions are always welcome (and sometimes beneficial).. but having a pointman set in stone is like saying

Pattern: Recon Rushes on Berlin usually use the middle entrance of the building on Berlin.
Counter: Put APM in the central of the building on Berlin on the bottom of the stairs.
> This has stopped recon rushes countless times. If Experiment is on the other side reinforce the APM with RDX
Pattern: Half of the time Titans aren“t defended just as the shield goes down

Tactics vs. Gunship:
Honestly if the gunship pilot and gunner are good, there isn't much at all that a walker can do against it. Yeah, you can put up your shields, but that means the stuff you are fightin on the ground will have the upper hand once it comes down. Yeah, you have the top turret gunner sometimes, and he has EMP rockets that track the gunship,...

From what you explained, I would start doing this:
After every engagement
(ie. I just killed two people.. I feel safe. I can take a breath. I can reload).
Move to a new location (doesn't have to be too far. Just don't be in the same 10meters), point to your old one.
Other stuff you probably know. Like grenades prior to the engagement (even if you don't kill, 20 damage beforehand goes a ...

Some very good stuff here - covers all the basics and a bit more - for those that want to start SLing.
I also suggest reading Crux's Squadleading guides if you want to start SLing more often:
