No data plan is required for this phone, I personally own this phone, it's great, texting is a breeze with the full virtual
qwerty keyboard(just gotta rotate it to the left ), For what you will use it for, it's great. For internet the behold is good, too, btw.

T-Mobile and Sprint have not merged, and most likely not due to their different use of frequencies, T-Mobile being GSM and Sprint being CDMA. I have had the Behold for awhile, and it hasn't given me any problems. You can't always blame the carrier on faulty phones, but it seems you got defective ones. How is that
Memoir going for you?

Well camera zoom is digital zoom, which is not usually good anyway. Optical is great, but you would need those digital
camera lenses for that. Anyway, it is most likely a x2 digital zoom the way you described it, the phone is moderate in everything, not meant to be fancy in any feature, but it's not simplistic.

I think alot of the touch screen problems are due to charging your phone with different chargers. Most if not all Samsung chargers are the same and I found out (after my second phone) that whenever I used my daughters Samsung t229 charger then switched back to my Behold charger my screen would lock up occasionally.
