The shrimp looked great -- not limp and bland at all, like boiled shrimp so often is. Ina roasted that shrimp, vera charles . She usually roasts shrimp these days because it has so much more FLAY-vor. Did anyone catch the remark Ina made about "Dolly Parton size chicken breasts" in the episode with that girl from big girls cook or something like that. What a ridiculous remark, can't believe they left that in the show....

I really liked Hawk, searching with his girlfriend in Atlanta. I thought he was Richard T. Jones at first glance. It sucks that he had to find out about his credit troubles on a nationally broadcast program, though. I found it odd that he was going for over $250K homes as a "first place", but whatever. I was rooting for him to get a deal to go through, because they seemed like a fun couple. This post has been edited...

Did anyone catch the (repeat) episode with the two gay guys looking for a house in San Juan? Totally adorable couple, and a beautiful house, but with some very odd fixtures. The sink in one of the homes was made of rock, and the realtor told them it used to be used as a cow trough. I really don't think I'd care for that in my bathroom. If it is the episode I am thinking of I thought it was in the Yucatan Peninsua (Mexico) --...

Pat Neely seems to come across as being so whipped. He is always watching his words and looking for Gina's approval. I know. I noticed this from the beginning, and especially during their Chefography. I mean, he never stopped carrying a torch for this woman, who clearly is so self-centered and overbearing to the point of being cartoonish...I notice that even the daughters seem to be overwhelmed in her presence.

Well, it is midnight on Christmas Eve in East Hampton. I imagine Ina fixed hot toddies for Jeffrey and herself, and knowing how many people her recipes serve, I imagine she and Jeffrey are VERY hot by now. I hear that Jeffrey is writing his own cookbook, due to come out next year ... "Grilling Thrills and Other Misadventures." He has learned from Ina that having a limited repertoire is not a hindrance when you want to write...

It's funny that Jack's place so resembles Ina's. They must have similar decorating tastes. The first time I saw the cocktail party episode, I also wondered why the fuss was made about him videotaping her set-up, when his party was in the barn. My next questions was why was his party was in the barn? Oh, well. His house is really beautiful. The shrimp looked great -- not limp and bland at all, like boiled shrimp so often is....

You know, I watched this show today, but it was so disjointed (although perhaps more in line with real-time cooking), that I missed seeing the finished product with the beef wellington. I do wonder why FN feels compelled to reuse sets for the different shows, though as this is essentially Anne Burrell's set with a few different props.

I thought that the cocktail party appetizers looked great. So did I, & I spent 20 minutes trying to find the recipe on the piece-of-shit FN website. I ended up Googling & finding another one from Food & Wine, I think, that was even easier. You don't brown the meat & instead of the mushrooms/shallots, you use Boursin cheese. Wrap it up in the puff pastry & bake. I'll be making these next Wed....

Was it the same show? I have My First Place on Tivo, but I saw this episode and thought there was a new series by the same name! It's also very similar to My First House on TLC. Weird. They definitely should have changed the name.

I saw the ads, I'm excited, I'm hoping it's all new. I could swear I've seen a Nigella Feasts series on the Style Network. No matter, they're all good. Edited because I think one thing and type another....

I can see the logic behind leaving salt and pepper (and oil?) off the list of ingredients, but I have to say that I really don't agree with that decision. As others here have noted, salt and pepper certainly are ingredients and should be counted, as the addition of each can make or break a recipe. I have to admit that the beef filets with the blue cheese butter in today's episode looked ...

It's kind of hard for people to cook along with Gordon if they're airing it way past dinner time for most people.

Wouldn't this mean that Jaime and Bobby were out of high school when she divorced Jimmy Deen? I mean, "raised her sons (AND Bubba) alone" always sounds like he abandoned them all--didn't participate in raising them, didn't contribute money for their care...nothing. I find that hard to believe. Several of us had thought that Jamie and Bobby were youngsters, or at least young teens when ...

Why was she wearing a rosary draped over her head??!! And seconding grisgris on the "I'm too busy to everything to do anything but interrupt everyone." Looks like she is trying to establish her do good political helpmate bonafides.

A walker is a man who escorts women to social events if they are unmarried or their husbands are not available. So, when Jeffrey is out of town, TR would accompany Ina to parties and other functions if she wants an escort. Or if she just wants to hang out with him.

Did anyone catch what the fugly hubby did for a living? Commercial lending, I believe is what they said, as they toured his home office. The ability to afford an $800k home had much to with the rehab and renovation, then sale, of their Bucktown apartment building. The kids were adorable and Highland Park is a nice area. I liked the home they chose. Annoying? The girl in the Cubs t-...

Uh oh, someone's gonna make azraelle's minions angry. I agree about the gimmickyness of RR's recipe names. Unfortunately, I think most of the FN's hosts do that, but RR's are particularly cutesy and annoying, to me anyway. But I think every dang cookbook on the planet has a recipe for " flourless chocolate cake" and who cares that it has no flour? (Unless you have an allergy or something, in ...

Was it me or was the "Grillin and Whatever" just segments from old shows spliced together and they put a 2007 stamp on it?

I watched two episodes of this show, and it should be re-titled, "Lousy Expert Makes Homeowners Cry When He Consistently Underestimates Renovation Costs by 25%." Ooh, that guy made me so angry. Honestly, why wouldn't he factor in the possible repairs to wiring and plumbing as part of the first estimate and allow people to finance it up front? And then, if they have extra money, well, ...

Yeah... my biggest problem with all these "budget friendly" shows is that they only factor the costs of the ingredients in the dish itself, like what osomarie said re: cost of 1 tsp of cumin, 1/4 cup of oil, etc. Unfortunately, you can't buy oil or cumin in that little quantity, so if you don't have it, you have to buy closer to $2-4 of oil or cumin rather than $0.30. After a while, that...
