My wife and I had dinner for the first time at the Hukilau Lani restaurant a few days ago. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent service and high quality of the food. I was even more surprised when the bill came and it was only $94 after ordering a bottle of wine, expensive entrees (prime rib & mixed seafood grill) and deserts. I highly recommend the Hukilau Lanai and hope everyone has as fine a dining experience as we did.

We've been lucky enough to stay at the Kauai Coast for the last 2 years. We ate at the Hukilau twice last year, and once this year. We think it's a lovely restaurant, with good service, and fair prices. This year, I used opentable.com to make our reservation, and got 100 points. Not sure what the points get me, but it's a great site.

We saw one in Maui in late November. We were coming back from a dive. The

As you suspected, there are no timeshares on the east side of the island. There are many nice B&B's that are reasonably priced.

It is a nice place! For those who don't know, it is located at a timeshare, too - Kauai Coast Resort at the Beach Boy.

Thanks for the link. I especially liked the looks of the melting hot-chocoloate filled souffle and the other deserts described at Roy's Kahana. I'm diabetic and my insulin pump would be working hard on those. Maybe the family could get a couple and I'll just sneak a "few" bites.

It's always good to have more non-stop options from the east coast but I'm not sure this one would help us. We'd have to fly one leg to Charlotte, this non-stop leg (9:45 departure + 2:11 arrival + 5 hour time difference = 9 hrs 26 min) and then whatever final leg to whatever island. That's a whole lot of legs for $960+ !
We flew direct Boston-LA and LA- Kauai with 5 and 6 hour legs. ...
