This is being done by the government, not individual resorts - the entire Cancun beach in front of all the resorts and hotels is being redone.

We also use ATM's and get enough money to last several days at a time. we feel safer using bank ATM's than the ones in some stores. We have used ATM's in the resorts, but prefer to go to one of the bank ATM's - they generally give you a better exchange rate.

Cancun Tom says: "Yesterday we entered through the Royal Mayan. We walked thru and down the steps to their beach and then walked north as far a we could which was about a kilometer, until we came to a orange temporary fence shutting off the beach. This was located near one of the Marriott's. We could see the work progressing at what I think was the Golden Parnussus. It was a nice walk and a different perspective of the work. Then...

Oh well. Things vary all over the map I guess. The Sands checkin has always been ffffffaaaaaaaassssssssssssttttttttt. Checkin at the Haciendas is prompt, but I always smile (inside) at the expression on the clerk's face...has been the same person each year....I can see the translation process taking place. It is like speaking into a cellphone with a 3 second delay.....always correct, but I force myself to slow down and allow for the...

buceo -- Oh no, not more shirts. I have a whole drawer of them!!! ...including one of the originals, with the Cancun logo on it. It has a few holes, but I can't EVER throw it out. Geoff - I agree, the name should have been swapped when the trust changed.

VDP and the Arco would be right next door to the Enstacia. If you were at the Arco you could be your buddies guest and vice a versa. You could contact each other with the room phones very easy. www.myuvc.com has the remoldeling updates. Every place else is a bit of a walk.

If you have time, you might like to explore the little surfing town of Sayulita. Bus trip takes about 45 minutes or so and is comfortable (from WalMart) safe and interesting. Take the city bus across from the resort, north to WalMart. Get off there and get on the "SAYULITA" bus that runs every 30 minutes. For the BEST breakfast go to ROLLIE'S! You walk across the bridge and into town on the main street. The beach is a...

Many tourists in Cancun this week?
Published (2009-12-26 16:04:00)
Don't get me wrong, I love Mexico, but after you have a personal incident like we had, it leaves a bad feeling in your stomach for a long time. It wasn't only just being stopped and harassed by police, that can happen anywhere, I have had other friends have similair issues. I was also offered to purchase drugs several times, we were harassed at the local markets just to look, there are a lot of desparate people in mexico right now....

Sheraton Buganvilias is a great location too. It is a short walk to town and several restaurants are nearby. The Mega is about 3 blocks north of the resort. The bus comes right by and to go north you just walk across the street to catch the bus heading that direction.

VDP is ok and the 1 bedrooms while dated were well kept before the
upgrades. Villa Del Arco would be a better choice. Another Medano beach
option would be Casa Dorado on Medano Beach.

They started at the north point and are working south. The Royal Sands is
south of the Westin Lagunamar. That beach has already been done.

Is an upgrade tour something that's offered to owners?
Our reservation is an RCI exchange into a 2-BR at the Grand Mayan. I wouldn't suffer through their tour to get a cash award, but is there a higher-level exchange unit above GM-level? [Years ago at another Grupo Mayan location we toured in order to upgrade ...

Like using your ATM card at a different bank than your own, the foreign bank will charge you as well as your own. It's a set amount- rather than a percentage, meaning it's better to withdraw say, 2000 pesos at a time than 500 4 times. We have an amount in our ATM accessible account that wouldn't hurt us if the card were stolen or compromised and transfer funds into that account online as needed....

I am not sure why people are not traveling. My guess is fear of the future and caution of spending money. Here is a chart with the occupancy percentages for Cancun. http://www.ahqr.com.mx/espanol/files/comparativo.h tm
Overall for Dec. 20, 59.6% and a month-to-date figure of 55.7%

I do not believe the units have laundry. It is at the resort but not in the unit. Just pack a few swimsuits and you'll be fine.
I'm jealous of warm weather!

Boutique Resort La Jolla, Mazatlan, Mexico Scam!
I just wanted to post an update to my case against Boutique Resort La Jolla, Mazatlan, Mexico. I am continuing to work with PROFECO in Mexico City, in filing my consumer complaint for a full refund of my earnest money down payment in the amount of $6175.00. After reading all the travel forums and websites, and discovering just how ...
