Scotland In the Summer
Published (2009-12-02 13:07:00)
Anytime of year when you go to Scotland, plan to bring layers to wear. Summer can be cold and raw or sunny and lovely. We bring golf shirts, sweaters, and even a heavy raincoat. You can't ever predict the weather, no matter what the season.

Greece Advice

Gresmi, if you are into history, Greece will be one huge museum. Everyplace they stuck a shovel in the ground, they struck antiquity. I found Athens to be a sort of 'one trick pony'. The Acropolis is good for less than a day. Wandering the Placa (the old marketplace below it) is good for a few hours- mostly touristy stuff. We truly enjoyed the Archaeological Museum, but how many broken pots, no matter how ornate can you gaze at...

Best way to Get Euro's in US
Published (2009-12-05 00:53:00)
You will love Rome. Cash is typical for an apt. Get some Euros here. Spare yourself the hassle. Credit cards are useful on the trip, but get some Euros before you go, not only for the apt. You'll probably be getting off the plane in the a.m. My advice if you have a good central location apt like we did is to drop your luggage and go immediately to the Vatican. You'll have your breath gone soon and will forget any jet lag. You can...

Leaving tomorrow for London!

You can buy a cheap prepaid cell phone and minutes nearly anywhere - like at Tesco which is a major grocery store chain. Kind of like buying a Tracfone in the US.

Scotland In the Summer

You don't say how long you plan to stay in Scotland, but assuming this is your first visit I'd suggest that Kilconquhar would be a great location. You are in easy reach of rail links to take you to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling etc and within easy driving range of St Andrews. You can still get into the Highlands in a couple of hours too.

Scotland In the Summer

Thanks everyone. I took everyone's suggestions, and we went ahead and booked 10 days at the Moness Country Club in Perthshire, and one night at the Canon Court Apartments in Edinburgh. We're quite excited! I've already inquired about golfing as a single at St. Andrews and researched tours of Glenmorangie's distillery.

Spain Viators or Andalucia?...
Published (2009-12-01 23:30:00)
Hi everyone, I need help deciding on which company to book with. I am staying at Marriott Marbella next week and am trying to decide whether to book on my own using Viators or just letting the concierge from the TS book for me using Andalucia Tours. Does anybody know if these are the same company? I know in Europe many tour operators rebrand their tours and then you end up on the same bus with people who paid less than you did. This happened...

Scotland In the Summer

We stayed at Kilconquhar in July, 04. This is a large timeshare resort located in Fife, not far from St. Andrews. We did day trips to Edinborough a couple times and St. Andrews twice. Friends with us took a minivan day tour up to the Loch Ness area while we walked the coastal path stopping along the way at quaint-to-us fishing villages. We had a rental car, but took the train into Edinborough. Weather was cool with some sunny and some rainy days.

I definitely want to plan a trip through Spain since it has lots of timeshares. In 2003, we went to London and the UK over a month. We left...

Go to your bank. There will be a transaction fee and they will probably have to order the currency which will take a day or two. Less expensive would be an ATM there, but you know what your limitations are. I know how disorienting early arrival from an overnight flight can be.
You also say you will be using a credit card for cash while there. I'd recommend a debit card instead. The cc will ...

Don't know a thing about the cell phone situation, but just wanted to wish you bon voyage. Have a great trip and tell us all about it when you return. One of our family's favorite trips was to London, so I'm sure you are going to have a wonderful experience.

We have owned at Melfort Village, which is on the west coast of Scotland, for 25 years and love it there. August is a wonderful time to go as the heather is in bloom in the Highlands and the mountains are covered in purple. (Unfortunately our timeshare weeks are in July so we miss that).

Here are the TUG reviews for Allen House . I stayed there for a week last spring and loved it. It is very convenient for exploring London. Tuggers rate it 8.2, which I would consider a "B." The Allen House is spacious and comfortable, but not fancy. The kitchen is tiny, which is typical. It is within walking distance of dining, shopping, and the Kinsington High Street Tube Station. We had...

There is a heavy tax for long haul departures from London. I would use the Eurostar to travel to London from Paris and then again from London to Brussels, Brugge and the rest of Belgium, thence to Germany, departing from Munich, Frankfurt or elsewhere. Rhine River Cruises are another nice excursion in Germany. You could leave from Amsterdam and end in Germany.
If you use the England site for ...
