Flat Spots Cooper Disc AT
Published (2009-11-23 13:43:00)
Its a tire defect, raise hell at the store you purchased them from. Cooper not reimbursing (sp?) them is not your problem. IMO. A radial should not flat spot, no matter the weight of the vehicle. Are you sure they know what they're talking about? Maybe they're referring to something different (cupping, wearing faster on the center section of the tire, or outer edges of the tire, etc.)

Oh yeah thats why I went with alloys...kinda wanted to get 16's with 285's but I dont think my 2.7 driving 4.10 gears would of liked it too much with a inch taller and E load vs my C loads __________________ Black 99 reg cab 2.7 5spd 165k miles (Replacement) Build up here

Flat Spots Cooper Disc AT
Published (2009-11-23 15:46:00)
Thanks 00regcab. Sorry, I have Cooper ST's not AT's.Yes, they are referring apparently to cupping. Went and talked to them about an hour ago. Tech said i may need new front struts. When he pushed on front suspension, insead of recoiling and stopping, it bounced (if that makes any sense). He said that could play a part. We then got the truck up to speed at about 65 and he replied "Yea, it bounces the hell out of ya don't...

I actually stumbled across those at walmart just the other day, looks like a damn good tread design.

As long as the wheels you want are Hub Centric, you'll be fine either way.

With that backspacing, you would probably be almost a full lug out past the TRD fenders... What about running a Pro Comp rim comparable to the Eagle alloy 185?

No you cannot buy calipers/rotors for a 15" wheel and put them on that 4runnner. Knuckles are very likely different. Grinding calipers is also a horrible idea.

Offset isn't measured in inches. Do you mean backspacing? If so, 5" backspacing is too much. You'll probably want to look for something closer to 4" BS.

No that's not right because that's not an agressive tire. A radial tire should NOT flat spot. Tell those bastards to refund you your money, and take the tires back, or order you a new non defective set. You cannot really balance a tire with flat spots in it to my knowledge.

A steel wheel is going to be much better off-road since they can take more of a beating. Alloys are a pain in the ass to clean, unless they are coated.
