This is a little long, but I especially liked the explanation of delayed cord-clamping and its benefits and the comments about jaundice. I guess it helps that I went into labor on my own. My water broke early in the morning... Why were you induced? Were you overdue?

I wonder if maybe natural labor occurs in the night more because of our relaxation levels? When you're sleeping, you're relaxed, and being relaxed helps your body go into labor.

I guess she doesn't plan on napping. I hope all goes well with the delivery. I think what makes this really intoxicating for me is not only the positive excitement about what is to come, but also the accents they all have. Part of my family lives out there and it feels like I'm talking to them!

*hugs* Maybe it'll help other women that do want a natural intervention-free birth. It'll show them what can happen and they can form their own opinions and make their own decisions about what's best for them and their babies.

I may write him a list...he's good with point form directions I'll let him know how important that will be at the time. I'm actually getting excited to PROVE to myself that I can do this. It's already so different from the first two times, just by changing my mind about what I want.

Wow. I can't imagine witnessing that. First to see one shark biting a chunk out of another and then to see little shark babies coming out.

That was so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I started crying when she said, "I did it."
I am surprised though how much of the surgery they allowed to be filmed. Most hospitals don't allow it for fear of it being used against them in malpractice lawsuits.

I had a hard time picking a time for the bulk...but I'll explain to give you a better idea.
1st baby:
Early labour for 2 days. Things REALLY started to pick up around 11:00pm and I was in heavy labour over night. He was born at 7:34am
2nd baby:
Hard contractions started at 3:00am. He was born at 4:09pm, but I believe he would have come much sooner had I not been strapped to a bed...

Me too!!!!
I definitely want a homebirth with my next baby!
The hospital birth went ok but the whole hospital atmosphere stresses me out. I'd be far more comfortable and relaxed at home...as long as I got plenty of batteries for my TENS machine and hopefully some gas and air I'm a happy bunny lol.

Well, you do have to consent to anything that would be an intervention
(i. e., sign for an epidural). I'd definitely let everyone know your desires
ahead of time and then ask the nurses to please not prompt you for
medication. If they do, turn them down. I'd also recommend having one or
two other support people (sounds like your husband is going to be doing
that) who can reiterate your desire to ...

This is great, Candice--thank you!
When I started reading it, I thought it was about the first post-partum menstrual period, though--and I was like, wow... five days in bed? And then continued bed rest?
HOW LONG CAN THIS PERIOD LAST???

She did what she thought she had to do to save her child. What a choice though, eh? Like that guy who decided to cut off his own arm - how do you make a choice like that?
This reminds me of the stories of women in Africa who now poop out of their vaginas because of being in labor for days on end with a stuck baby and no medical care [midwife or doctor]. Many of those women forever damaged ...
