Basically, there should be space around your nipple when you put the flange on. Once you start pumping it'll suck your nips in pretty tightly but it should not be overly painful. Definitely have someone check it out for you. What type of pump do you have? I had to replace the flanges on mine (they cracked after repeated drops on the floor ) and they didn't cost much, maybe $15 for both. Breast Pumps Direct seems to have pretty good...

Call WIC even if you don't get other benefits they can help with maybe hooking you up with an LC or a set of larger flanges for free. It's worth a shot.

I have been using one since the beginning and love the fact that i have never been sore. I really have liked using it. BUT be careful the kind you get. They can cause problems w/ your milk. My milk has decreased so for that reason I wouldnt use it. My LC told me though that the medilla one, which i have, doesn't cause to much of a problem b/c its thin. So i guess i'm saying, i like it but don't like that it decreases milk...

First bottle!! Yay!

The first few bottles Andrew took of my milk (before he started refusing them), he just chugged down, even on a slow flow nipple. It was almost like it was going so fast for him. Hopefully Lucas was just getting the hang of it--I'm glad he took it for you though!

Quinoa, red rice, seeds, millet and nutritional yeast are good sources of protein. Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, tahini are good sources. Red rice has way more protein than brown rice and is tastier too. It was pretty cheap at the italian store. Make smoothies with hemp protein powder. You can get hemp protein powder pretty cheap on iherb.com I also dont find chickpeas gassy like beans and lentils.

I looked at the pictures but I still can't really tell . Mine don't fit similarly to either of those images. I'm kind of thinking they might be too small. But I'll get someone to see them on me before I fork out money for new ones.

That's so great! Congrats! And I kind of know what you mean about the sadness, for me it was weird seeing that Jocelyn could get what she needed (the bottle) from someone else...but then I thought about it....what's in the bottle??? My milk! So she's still getting it from me. And you definitely won't lose the bond

I agree that is sounds like a clogged duct. I had this happen once and did as the other ladies suggested. . . rub the spot even if it hurts a bit. . .it went away after a day. Hope it goes away quickly for you Sonja!

Can someone take over... my stickied Dr. Hale look-up thread? If not Lainey or Shay will you lock it please? I am on TMP less and less and would hate for someone to post for help and not get an answer. Thank-you! __________________

I hope you can get some help from them!
Have you considered taking fenugreek, or something along those lines, to up your supply? Oatmeal is supposed to help increase supply too. I posted a recipe for lactation cookies the other day (I'll edit in the recipe) that could help you too.
Hang in there!

Don't use them unless you absolutely need to.
There are a few moms here who have used/are using nipple shields and I think most of them would say that they're a hassle and they wouldn't be using one if they didn't need to be. Most moms don't have issues with breast feeding so unless you run into problems don't bother with them.

Mommy's milk wins again!
So we had cereal yesterday for breakfast and I ran out of 2% milk. The girls were set on having their bowls, so what did I do? Yup...gave them some EBM that I had in the fridge. They didn't see me do this, so their reaction was priceless...
Both of them couldn't get over how good their cereal was!! Camryn's...

I had the same problem when I wanted to start a stash - my son nursed so often I felt like there wasn't enough to pump! What I found was, I had so much milk in the morning that my son only needed to nurse on one side and I could easily get 5 oz from the other side. So I just pumped each morning after he nursed. To really build up my stash, I also pumped each time he only nursed on one side ...

WOOHOO!!! That's great!
Yes, it is easier for him to get milk from a bottle than it is from your breast.
Don't worry, you won't lose the bond with him. That's something that you won't lose with your baby. Personally I loved watching my DH give Ben a bottle (he gave Ben his first few bottles when I was still nursing him). It was the sweetest thing...

This is the new When did you start? thread! This way we can keep track of who is coming up on a big mile stone so we can make a big deal out of it.
So simply post with your name, babies name and when you started nursing, for those pumping moms when you began pumping. Then I'll update the OP so we can have a easy to find list.

As far as I know it's suggested to use the slow flow because babies have to work at getting the milk out like they do with a breast.
How often are you offering him a bottle? Mayb e try giving it to him more often(?). You've got a month before you go back to work so you still have some time to work on it. Have you tried a different type of nipple/bottle? Many moms use Dr. Brown or Born Free...

The pain!!!!
Last night Jocelyn fed at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm, 9:30 pm and not again until 4:00 a.m. and then at 8:00 a.m. That was the first time she has gone 6.5 hours between two feedings. My breasts felt very full of course. When I fed her I was expecting to feel a relief of the fullness pain. It did relieve a little bit, but not all the way....

They are 3 months that's a common growth spurt.
The speed can help. My pump was fast for the first couple minutes and went slow so I'd turn the pump off and back on to make it go fast again...the faster speed would trigger milk spraying out again. I'd turn the pump off and on 3-4 times each time I pumped. If your pump has a speed dial use that to up the speed and then lower it again. You can ...

Blowouts are common with EBF babies. Their poops are the consistancy of
mustard and sometimes they save it up for one ginormous poopsplosion. I
remember a few that went all up her back and some that made it to the
bottom of her footy PJs. I found cloth diapers way better at containing
them. Grunting and straining is common for all newborns, no matter how they
are fed. Their digestive system and ...

no, whatever you don't use needs to get thrown out, you can't reheat it, I
think its because of bacteria.
