It doesn´t sound stupid at all, we all have to learn before we get wiser. A mesh is the mask your download has been build upon, the skeleton, so to speak. So if you want to download clothes or furniture or anything at all in this game that is not just a recolour, you will need the mesh that it has been build upon. I hope that was clear, all of a sudden it sounded a bit woolen to me ...

Hi again. Sorry for the double post. Have more info: I found information that said that it was possible to install the expansions in orders other than the order they were released. So, I have re-installed Seasons and it installed and played with no problems. However, I am still not able to install University Life and Best of Business Collections.

When you download are you downloading it to your computer/desktop then opening it? Once downloaded, you can right click on the sims2pack file, and choose the Clean Installer from the menu.

It sounds like you still have a corrupted file. Try exiting the game, completely removing your download folder, delete the group.cache file from the sims 2 folder and then restart the game. See if you can place the toilet and have your sims use it. If so, then slowly start adding some of your downloads back until you experience the problem again.

First, I hope whoever uninstalled your game, I hope you smacked them upside the head! With just a little work, you can restore it, depending on what was saved. What exactly do you have that was saved? The entire My Documents/EA Games folder?
