Military crimp

If you reprimed it with no trouble, it wasn't crimped. There are a variety of tools to remove military crimps. A simple twist of your chamfer tool will do it in a pinch. This simple Hornady tool works pretty well. Don't get carried away. The Dillon Super Swage is considered the best tool out there for quailty/volume work.

Call Dillon. This is not one of their we-fix-it-free-no-matter-what items, but they can fix it cheaper than buying a new one. You have to call first and get an "RMA number" which you plaster all over the tumbler and the box. Then you UPS it back to Dillon in Scottsdale. I know all this because I just mailed my CV-500 back on Saturday. I see you live in Augusta. Maybe great minds think alike. Or maybe we live in the...

L-R = Not crimped, U.S. type Ring crimp, European type Stab crimp. The lacquer sealer on the primer is often a sign the primer is also crimped in place. rc

Importance of a Chronograph

Quote: "...can't stand NOT knowing what the loads I make actually do..." How's the accuracy? Accuracy is far more important the the velocity. A one hole group at 100 yards will keep you warm and fuzzy all winter. No, no it doesn't. Had that weeks ago with this load. Still doesn't tell me what I'm looking for. Justin

Reloading Accuracy

While we are patting ourselves on the back we should also give some kudos to the people that make the factory ammo. Can you imagine tyring to make accurate loads for every 30-30 rifle made in the past hundred years? I don't think I'd want that challenge. I'm surprised that they do it as well as they do.

Hey Rusty. Yup, can you believe what is happening to our country. Most of it is being taught in our schools and the media can have the rest of the blame. Hollywood is also selling it. By the time kids reach 18 here, they think guns are bad and shouldn't be sold. They seem to forget that criminals are not law abiding and they do not get their guns in the legal manner. Sucks for someone like me since I live in southern California. I like...

You folks from Kali know the drill. If you subvert the children to hate evil firearms in their formative years, your anti-gun message and laws are much easier to pass when they attain voting age. Apple computers used that tactic to break through the IBM pc lock on the market. They donated computers to schools, and the children learned on Apple and bought Apple computers for college and home and today Apple is a viable company instead of...

(My turret is slightly different--it's the updated older turret. The issues are the same, however.) Lee has intentionally chosen this part of the press to fail in the event of a forced stroke. "Upgrading it" to a steel part would just result in another part failing, I suspect. At any rate, here's what I have found in the course of loading some 20,000 plus rounds on my turret in the past two ...

For target loads there is not much savings. When you get into slugs, or buck then you can save a bunch. Specialty loads like buck and ball or game loads, besides being hard to find are very expensive.

I am about to load a bunch of 180g FMJ 10 mm ammo. I am either going to use Blue Dot or AA#9. It looks like #9 gives the lowest pressures and the highest velocities. Is AA#9 the best choice for 10mm or am I overlooking something else?

So, I will get some money for Christmas, and I am thinking about buying a chronograph - but of course there are other things I want. How much importance do you guys place on them? I shoot for my own enjoyment, not competitively, nor do I hunt anything other than prairie dogs with centerfires, so velocity is not paramount to me. Not to say I would never hunt with a centerfire, but I don't ...

Well in general, Factory ammunition is made to fit all chambers. The ammunition that you reload can be trailered to fit YOUR chamber. This can give the reloader an edge. Also recoil can have an effect. If your recoil sensitive then your loads can be lighter allowing more precise/faster follow-up shots. When you start to get into reloading for rifle, the fitting the ...

Yep; you need a handle to hand turn it, a threaded adapter to put it into a 'driver' of some sort or it fits the Hornady case prep 'station'. You only need to shave off a small lip-a bit larger than a typical trimming 'burr'; a couple twists does the job.

I agree, but unfortunately I believe the Kalifornia law applies to bullets, powder and primers also. I sure hope the NRA is all over this. So if you live in Kali, stock up on reloading supplies before February 1, 2010 when the law goes into effect. madd0c

You'll need a powder measure for sure, and probably a case trimmer by the time your cases have been reloaded a couple of times. I'd would also invest in a tungsten carbide sizing die to avoid having to lube cases (unless that's the only way die sets are shipped nowadays.)

Dad and I loaded up about four dozen 9x19 and .38spl loads last night and went out to chronograph them today. Using lead cast that he made up from some wheel weights correctly sized and lubed. We have no idea where, along the load process, these loads got out of hand. The entire time, we were as meticulous as always, but the numbers were just out of this world! .38 SPL at 1100+ Hi guys, I have developed a .38 SPL load at 1100 FPS (+P+) for use in my .357 mag Ruger GP100. This load does not show signs of pressure issues, but still, with lead bullets it will cause severe leading in the bore. I am using Speer swaged .38 SWC-HP bullets, 158g. These do not have a rebated heel for...
