.380 Revolver?

Quote: Charter's to-be-released 9mm is supposed to handle .380 too. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...revolver-carr/ I'm wondering how they do that. .380 is smaller in diameter in the case, very slightly, and I'd expect ruptured cases if chambered in a 9x19.

If the "wear" is down to bare metal, flaking, that's about a fair price but you will have to baby that area. If you just mean it shows some marks to the nickel that don't ruin it's plating and integrity, then it's a pretty darn good price.

I'd like to know about the springs if you can find out. I've been wanting a SW 627 for a good while, but can't justify the cost because it will just be a range toy for the most part. However a 608 is roughly half the cost of the Smith

Quote: Wouldn't a speed loader let you reload a 38 just as fast as moon clips let you reload 9mm? No, not even close. Longer cartridges like the .38 or .357 are harder to get aligned with the chambers. Speed-Loaders often run into interferance with the cylinder release on J-Frame guns. Speed-Loaders have to be handled twice, once going in and once coming out. You got to do something with the empty one after you empty it. You can...

See post #4. J&G Sales has some older 64's at VERY attractive prices ($200 and under), but most if not all are double-action only. I don't mind DAO on a defensive revolver, but a relatively inexpensive model 10 hammer and trigger will restore the single-action mode for those that want it.

I carry the old Colt detective special and have done so for many years. I carry it in the pants holster with a cross draw. There are more snubbies today than ever before and with all the latest hoopla over the high capacity semi autos the little snubbies are holding their own. And for good reason, they are powerful enough , easily concealed and extremely reliable, making it ideal.Yes, I know the semi auto guys say they do not hold enough ammo,...

Pictures are worth a thousand words. If it is a Smith and Wesson, open the cylinder and look at what's stamped on the frame underneath it, as well.

For carry IWB or OWB carry, you may as well go with the 3 1/16" barrel on the M60. It likely won't make any difference in comfort, but you'll get a full length ejector rod, a longer site radius, and a bit more velocity for a bit more penetration out of either .38 or .357.
And don't under estimate the good 'ole . 38 Special. It may not look like much on paper, but many of the better .38 ...

1. It wasn't a big deal with city folk like Doc H. Cowhands did a lot of that since they were short on money and long on time and had occasion to practice that type of showmanship. Gunslingers were actually just either bad or mean folk with a predilection toward efficiency. If they practiced anything, it was their draw only.
2. It's safe enough. Most everyone with both brain hemispheres ...

As far as the capability of this round... It is a true versatile caliber with many pro's and little con's. I'm sure you will be bombarded with why and why not but I am pro 357mag for SD and HD. Let the beatings begin...
As far as loading for plinking I like to stick with 357 cases and no 38spl so I don't have to clean the infamous ring. The load data for lead is plentiful and you can switch...

Some governmental organizations do not allow the 357 Magnum...leave it up to the government to make stupid decisions...I can see no logical reason for a " 38 Special Only" revolver.

LCR broke!
Quick background- to date I have approx. 120 rounds through my LCR, plus about 2000 dry-fires, mostly using snap caps.

Full lug? 4", because 6" full lug barrels are too front heavy to suit me. I don't think the sight radius between 4", 5" and 6" is a big deal, but obviously a 6" sight radius will give a bit of an edge.

i've been carrying a tuned S&W 642 for years...but if i were buying new, i'd look very seriously at the Ruger LCR
i' would base my selection first on trigger feel/function, followed by size and weght
my first choice was a Colt Cobra (alloy framed Detective Special) but they were hard to find for a reasonable price...it has a superior trigger pull and is even more tunable that the S&W. it's...

The old 158 grain round nose lead bullet at 755 fps was the standard .38 Special load for years. (Revolver makers still sight their fixed sight guns for it.) I sounds anemic, but a lot of people shot with it died and did so without further ado. It also proved ineffective in some well-publicized cases. If armed with a .38 Special, I consider it adequate for defense but prefer something with ...

I am well aware of the many slams on Rossi and such, but also have some feed back that seem to think Rossi revolvers are fine for what they are. This THRead might be of interest.
Most shooters have and enjoy both .38's and .357's. I had a .38 first, then got a .357, but these days I shoot mostly downloaded .357 stuff using .357 cases in my .357 guns, as well as my .38 Spl guns.
