9 mm pocket carry? - Page 2 - THR

I am glad someone mentioned the Mak. Most of those are well built little guns that stand up to a lot of shooting. On the heavy side, but very affordable and good ammo is available from Cor-bon.

Help dating sig p220
Published (2008-11-27 09:19:00)
If your Sig is the older stamped slide made of carbon steel, look at bottom of the slide on the dust cover(the part just below the muzzle). There should be two letters. Likely the first letter will be an "K" followed by a second letter. Sigs made in W. Germany used these letters as a date code: A=0 B=1 C=2 D=3 E=4 F=5 G=6 H=7 J=8 K=9 So, if the letters you have are "KC", then your Sig was made in 1992.

Lawyers can and will make you look bad by any means neccesary, no matter what ammo you use. So relax and use the most effective ammo available to you and worry about the potential trial afterwords.

You could go around with an AR with ten 30-round magazines and under certain circumstances you may still "feel" outgunned.

I have the P3AT and a S&W Airweight. I have formed the opinion the P3AT is almost too small. By that I mean if I ever had to get it into operation quickly from a pocket carry it is not easy to get the right grip and your finger in the trigger guard.

Locking Up A Loaded Gun
Published (2008-11-27 18:41:00)
As long as you use safe handling procedures, that sounds fine to me. The big concern as I understand it is that someone might put a loaded gun in a safe, leave it for months, come back, assume it's empty, and then potentially bad things might happen. If you do this with a frequently carried gun, I'd say there's no danger because you are aware of its condition and only you have access.

Everyone feels like they're wearing a volkswagon under their clothes the first time they carry. Glad to hear you got through your first day. Pretty soon, you'll realize that noone is looking at you and you'll be very comfortable with it all. If you're responsible with it, noone will ever know unless the situation dictates that you inform them (you are forced to draw). Congrats! SRT

I live in Erie County, NY, have an Unrestricted Carry Permit, and found out it is considered a gun law violation to shoot someone else's gun at a range - or visa-versa - even if the other person has a permit as well as you. This was from my county permit office. Shooting someone else's puts you legally in the position of using a gun not on your permit, i.e., an unregistered gun. This would likely...

This is for those who currently own, or have owned a Taurus handgun. Choose whether you had a good gun or a bad gun. This is not intended to start a fight, just simply see how many good and how many bad Taurus handguns there are. I own two Taurus handguns and my son owns one. We have had ZERO problems. What about you?

Hello. I'm (still) debating as to whether get a M&P 9mm (full-size) or a small revolver (642 or SP101) for carrying. The other day my girlfriend, our four month old, and her friend and her friends young son were out and there was a man acting very odd, just hanging in front of an empty store. A few minutes later he was standing behind the car, hands in his pocket not really doing anything. ...

Bought a Beretta Tomcat .32 auto NIB. Malfunctioned at about 25 rnds. Bad enough to send back to Beretta ( You know you got a problem when you can make your armorer scratch his head and say "SOB...never seen that before!"). My question is really has anyone ever had one of these fail to release the hammer when firing in semi auto? Weapon acts as if the saftey is on. You can either fire the first...

Caliber negotiable, but D.A./S.A. is not (although can be of the striker fired "D.A./S.A." variety like the P99, so long as heavier/longer first pull). Bonus points for no M.S. and a grip frame that accommodates 3 fingers like the 17.6 oz. P232 does.

I'll add to the Rohrbaugh vote. Just recently got mine and it's one of the most well made pistols I've seen in the "pocket" class. Dont' need or want +P's in this class. No protrusions AT ALL to snag or accidently drop the mag if hit. Totally safe double action pull. No safety needed. No decocker needed because it's never cocked. You've mentioned 3 different mfg. and calibers, and both semi-auto and revolver styles. If your looking for one gun to cover all your bases then smallest, flattest and lightest would be the apparent direction to go in. Today's excellent selection of SD loads boost the 380 into the viable category. On the other hand, if your looking to have different carry pieces, as many of us do, then ...

OK. Obviously FMJ has a couple of drawbacks for personal protection and HD, over-penetration (depending on the caliber) and the whole lack of expansion / wound cavity thing. For the sake of discussion, let's kind of leave .45 ACP out of the mix (or not, up to you) because an awful lot of people think that 230 grain FMJs pack a wallop. The gun ignorant folks think of hollow points as "cop ...

Say a S&W 586 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel and the "3 T's" compared to a tricked out 1911 full size semi auto; say......." Wilson Combat" Please give a reason for your choice..(And Don't hold back!!!)

I know it's considered unsafe to lock up a loaded gun, but naive or not, I don't understand exactly why. I have a loaded gun in my safe, because I consider it safer to keep it loaded after carrying it, than unloading, clearing chamber etc., frequently. (It's a semi-auto). Under the theory the less handled the better when not in use or cleaning, that's the simplest. It goes from my holster to ...

Alright, I'm admitting it, in case no one knew--I'm only 21. Due to my living in KY and attending college out-of-state, it has taken me 4 months to complete the various steps to obtain my CCW permit (what is usually a 1.5 month process--at least that's how long my dad's took, and he took his CCW class with me!). I drove home from college today (break time!), and was finally able to pick up my ...

It means go out and shoot it. It also delays you wanting them to warranty it if you wait 500 rounds. A "break in" should not be needed, but many times it helps to loosen up tight parts or wear down the occasional burr from machining. It won't hurt a thing, and you need to practice anyway, right?
