That was the battle of all sieges if my history serves me. Hey SSNvet, when did you get out? My son served on the Pittsburg, Maine, Salt Lake City and commanded the Rhode Island. Were you on any of those boats?

One of my problems with the film was the way it pretended that these elite soldiers were all "good Germans" who refused to execute prisoners, etc. I would have found the film more interesting if they had been the same generally nice guys who nevertheless gunned down women and children when ordered. Because let's face it very very few German soldiers refused such orders when it came right down to it. There's also a...

So they documented some "private sellers" breaking the law... so we need to pass another law to stop the lawbreakers right? They'll follow that one of course!
I imagine people like that (on both sides of the camera) is why my local gun show allows only FFLs to set up tables with guns. Private sellers walk around with usually 1 or 2 guns, and really are private.
I'd be curious to find ...

MAS 49/56: Slamfire
Anschutz ST (very early production): a defect in the reciever machining was causing the weapon to fire occasionally when the bolt was closed. It was fixed, and didn't happen again.

Interesting observations about this rnd. Makes sense to me on some intuitive level.

Rifles
-Ar 15 carbine, The most accurate assualt weapons platform that I would use to defend myself and my liberty with.
-PTR 91 or AR10, Don't own them yet but one would be more choice of battle rifle to do the same as ar-15 except a little more versatile as a shtf gun.
-Marlin guide gun, .45-70 will kill anything on any continent 100 yds or closer, and it's cool to ...

Hey !
Welcome to Minnesota !!
You need to take a class for the carry permit. The permits are on a must issue basis reguiring a class & are good for 5 years . The permit to carry also acts as a permit to purchase for handguns, and Minnesota requires this purchase purmit for "assault" style long guns as well.
No restrictions on what you carry , and it is a carry permit (open ...

Have you ever shot before? Do you know the 4 rules? How the rifle operates? How to aim? Clear it? (and so on)
If no, then I think you should go get that instructor, or find someone else you trust to teach you to shoot. There are a couple members here in the NYC area, and a lot more upstate. I'm sure they would be willing to help.
Good luck, and good on you for starting to shoot...

I personally think a better tack is to focus on common calibers instead of minimizing them.
For example, adding 5 guns to his 3 gun battery (12 ga, Mosin, 452 .22 rifle) to do all you expect/want to do with a gun. Maybe the OP can provide a price ceiling.
What would they be ?

I've learned that the Columbine shooters obtained their guns through this same loophole in the law.
So you have to refer to Columbine because no laws would have stopped the Virginia Tech shooter.
Mr. Goddard is a college student. Can't he come up with something more original than "AK 47"? How about "BAR" or "Ruger Mini 14"?

Here's a couple. A customer in a gun shop said, "The scope you sold me is no good because I can't hit anything when I shoot off hand. If I rest the gun, the scope stays zeroed, but off hand it won't. I know it's not me because I had my buddy try it and it does the same thing."
A salesman in a shop..."The AK-47 is only good out to 100 yards, maybe 150."...

Try this, I can't be sure it will work because some people are beyond being reasoned with.
Tell them that you believe that in a political society the most important of all things is the preservation and protection of innocent human life. If they agree with you then state that the best historical and empirical evidence proves that in a political society the private possession of arms ( ...

Wasn't the time 6 seconds and the distance 200 yards? Working the action that fast is possible but doing it accurately with a piece of crap scope would be in my opinion the real trick. The thing I find most interesting is that there is documentation surrounding the assination which is still classified and will be for a long time to come.

Houndawg,
I admire your dedication to cleanliness but on the rifles it is missplaced. You need to read John Barsness's latest article on bore cleaning and rifle accuracy. He kept track of every group and cleaining for a decade or so. He (like my dad) can prove that a rifle shoots it's best groups when the bore is fouled to some extent, and that group size doesn't open up for at least 50 ...

This custom Big Bore 94 in .450 Marlin:
It's the only firearm I've ever owned that actually has an article written about it. Not about the type of rifle, but about this exact same rifle. As in the guy who built it wrote an article about it. At that point it was still in the wildcat .458x2 American but it was subsequently changed to .450 Marlin when that round came out. The two are ...
