best scope choice under $500?
Published (2009-11-03 09:49:00)
Depends on the magnification range choice. Which magnif. do you want? You can get more quality scope for your $500 with a low magnif. than with a high one. So the answer matters in choosing. But generally, I'd look at the Elite 4200, the Sightron S3 or S2, the Nikon Monarch; maybe the Burris Signature Select or Black Diamond.

RSC Interior Re-model

Sounds like your friend has a Browning. Most modern day gun safes are using a felt like material for the interior. It's the same fabric used to wrap speaker boxes for car audio applications, and is usually available at places that sell fabric.

Military surplus

Some good surplus items (mostly gun parts or accessories), but not a broad selection of surplus, at: AIM Surplus Military Gun Supply CDNN Sports The broadest selection I know of for surplus specifically, including clothing and miscellaneous items, is probably Sportsman's Guide, followed by CTD.

A+ for the Super Sniper. They now offer first focal plane scopes as well. I do love my 3200 as well as far as overall value goes.

I'll talk to the dealer this week. Left the door open a good chunk of the day yesterday and last night and now after being shut all day, humidity was a more reasonable 55%. Still higher than ambient (50%), but much closer than it was...

Aimpoint Issue?
Published (2009-11-03 16:00:00)
Are you referring to Killflash ARD? If so, mine has it, and the light is still visible. I've used CompM3s and M4s at night before, and I didn't notice the front signature as much as I do on my M2. This may just be because the newer models are better at reducing it. It's visible under room light conditions, though, which struck me as odd. And, thinking back on it, I may never have used this sight in low light before. Mike

Looking for a laser rangefinder...
Published (2009-11-08 13:24:00)
I would have to rate a pair of high quality compact binoculars far more useful for hunting then a rangefinder. You will find eye strain to be a problem during long glassing sessions with even the best range-finder optics. For normal rifle hunting, range is not really that critical unless you are going to be shooting 300- 400+ yards all the time. Properly sighted in for maximum Point Blank Range, hold-over is not an issue with high-velocity...

6"-9" for bench shooting. I also don't like the swivel version for benchshooting. Use the rear bag for adjustments.

Glock 29 Holster
Published (2009-11-01 01:57:00)
I am wondering if any of you Glock 29 owners out there have purchased a holster desigined for the Glock 20 and had any luck. In theory they should be interchangalble. I'm sort of looking for an IDPA type holster or something that is marketed as "tactical". I've looked at Fobus, Sidearmor, Bladetech, Blackhawk, and a few others. As I've got a couple of good IWB holsters (where this pistol usually lives) I am...

Just another cheap Chinese no-name scope. I noticed it comes with Air-gun/.22 rings. That right there ought to tell you it probably won't last too long on a centerfire rifle. Besides, IMO: There is no scope that comes with a set of rings, flip-open lens covers, target knobs, adjustable Parallax, and sells for $60 bucks that would be worth wasting your time & ammo on. ...

Do you like to shoot .22 LR quietly and cheaply? I did a new comparison test with a budget .22 LR suppressor made by Thompson Machine of FL. I compared it to one of the industry leading high end suppressors. The results were very impressive. All you hear is the slide clap of each. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/user/...

Military surplus I'm not sure where else to ask this, I'm looking for a good military surplus store online. The benchmark is around 4". There are some models for scout guns that offer extreme eye relief similar to a pistol scope. What's the application?

I tried to obtain a change key for a LaGard mechanical from a locksmith and they would not provide one, acting squirrely. I suppose it's to protect their business revenue, understandable, but it ain't rocket science. WTF? Oh well, instead I bought a vintage NOS S&G Group II lock, to replace the junky LaGard. Has change key included.

I think the Streamlight TLR-1, without the tape switch would be the way to go. Tape switches are a huge pain in the butt, as is the coil cord, sticky tape, and attendent mess. The Streamlight TLR-1 has very convenient, easy to use switch that can be operated with the trigger finger just fine. If you don't hardwire it to your gun with a tape switch, it comes of in a second when you ...

it's normal to see the "light source" from outside and front of the scope. That's why aimpoint sells those lens filter so the baddies won't see the glows at night (like you really need one). On the other issue , not sure. My aimpoint looks like a cluster due to my eye problems at night, but even running on full it looks just fine in daylight
