Long Range Scope...Opinions needed?
Published (2009-11-25 02:36:00)
Hey I like zeiss all day long. Great customer service, very reliable, and great clarity. But to compare apples to apples, the 4.5-14x44 is 875 dollars from swfa, and the bushnell is 750 dollars. The bushnell is a 30mm tube vs a 25mm/1" tube, it goes all the way down to 2.5 and goes up to 16 power which is one of the most impressive power ranges in rifle scopes. The 30mm tube will allow for more adjustment and the greater power range...

Any thoughts on this red dot optic
Published (2009-11-26 17:01:00)
I wouldn't buy that if I was you. If you need a cheap dot...well, take a look at the Bushnell Trophy MP. That's the cheapest I'd go. You've purchased a solid rifle, now how about giving it the solid optics it deserves? Use irons in the meantime while you save up some money for a quality optic. I see lightly used Eotechs go for around the $300 mark frequently, for example.

I don't know. But if even half the poor customer service and "blow-you-off" warrentee claim BS are true I have heard about the 2x? I don't intend to find out with my money. Of the 7 customer reviews on Midway, 5 were happy, and 2 were not so happy. I guess you pays your money and you takes your chances. rc

Good Flashlight/Laser for pistol
Published (2009-11-25 15:32:00)
mine is within about an inch of point of aim. it varies depending on the distance to the target. I think it is zeroed at 25 yards, but you can check their website if you want to be sure. I haven't tried mine from a bench rest or anything like that to confirm it, but in my experience it's close enough to zeroed shooting handheld that any distance greater than 1 inch is my fault. If I could afford it, I'd have them on one or two...

AMSEC BF vs. Sturdy safe question
Published (2009-11-27 00:14:00)
Quote: I suppose I am focused a lot on the skin comparison...no I could not bend a full sand bag, but wouldn't getting a pry bar into the sand to start to rip it open be a lot easier with a thinner bag material? Yes. But would doubling up on the bags make much of a difference? For the most part, gun safes are the bags of the safe industry. They are the lightest, and thinest boxes made. There isn't much of a difference when dealing...

Here is a silical desiccant pack that I use. I have two, but you only need one. You can make them last longer if you heat the inside of the safe with a dehumidifier. If you open your safe frequently, which you will at first. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=623716 Dehumidifier http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=453246

I'll just start with some of the pics that I took as I finished up my project for today. I need to get some 16gauge wire crimps to shorten the wire to the upper light. This is on a BF6636 safe from AMSEC

Quote: A schmidt and bender I would hope to trump a scope that cost 2000 dollars less than it but I would not guarantee it. I will; I have compared: PRH, S&B, Zeiss Diavari and Conquest (what I judge all others by), Swaro, Leupold VX-III, as well as Bushnell Elite 4200 in side by side comparison and can say without question that the PRH and S&B are the best scopes that I have looked through (I honestly couldn't tell any...

How is the zero on the Lasermax? I've read people talking about how you can't adjust it so you might be off center and not be able to do anything about it. Have any problems with that?

Quote: I've basically been told not to bother with NV unless I was shelling out the big bucks (Gen 2+ and better). And from what I've researched...well, you get the picture. There's a reason I have no NV gear of my own. Same here, a $200-$400 unit, still has you out $2-400 bucks, with not much to show for it. Unfortunately the military spoiled me, so only Gen III would suit me and I can't afford it (yet). There are some...

I would go with a nikon monarch for what you are looking for maybe stretch out your cash for a bushnell elite 4200. The 3-12x42? maybe 44 in the nikon is around 300 and is a lot better optics than the leupold. Leupold is not very good on price point but has the best customer service. Also google some articles on optics here are some basics sorry if I explain the obvious, not trying to insult....

A couple of things. First, it is not a good idea to run 22lr through that suppressor. Centerfire suppressors are sealed and 22lr will foul and lead up the baffles which you will have difficulty cleaning out. If you want to shoot 22lr a dedicated 22lr can would be best.
As for the sound of 5.7 versus 9mm or 45. 45 is a subsonic round and can be fairly well suppressed. 9mm with a subsonic loading...

I see Simmons scopes being advertised at really cheap prices
I've got two Simmons scopes that I'd give you if you were in my area. Total junk is an understatement IMO. Best thing about Simmons is that they make you appreciate something (which is most anything) that is better.

I'm curious, is there an anti-glare filter on the lens? Or can you not see out of it as the sun becomes less bright because of "bloom" on the lens - in other words the dot is too bright to allow you to see? Not trying to insult you, but the brightness can be turned down too.
However, EoTechs are great sights, if you go that route, and you won't regret getting one

The crossbreed Super Tuck is rated quite highly by many concealed carry users.
You may also want to check my website for concealed holsters. I'm a big guy myself (6'4"-300lbs.) so I have a pretty good understanding of what big guys go through in selecting a IWB concealed carry holster. I origionally designed my IWB Bulldog #1 holster for myself. It's very comfortable, rides high and is canted....

How do I know if I need a riser rail?
Just bought a Sight Mark Holo/Laser sight for my AR, and was wondering if I should mount it right to the flattop, or should i use a riser rail? How would i know if I need one? How high, etc?
Thanks in advance.

Who Sells SMALL Magazine Carriers???
I would like to find a small leather magazine carrier for my belt that will hold the magazines for the Kahr PM-9.

Let me know how you like it. A flashlight, handcuffs, and pistol have always worked fine for me when "things go bump in the night". The more time consuming effort for me has always been getting my pants on. I wouldn't keep any gun under the bed; 'The dust bunnys will get it.'

Suggestion: Don't go cheap. I know budgets are tight, but buy once, cry once. And get some low light training if there is any in your area. It'll be worth the cost.
I'm a big Surefire fan (but their stuff will give you sticker shock!). A laser/light combo unit is going to be more expensive than a light only, I'd buy a light only first.
It is absolutely worth it to put on a light for HD ...

Go to XS sight systems and see what they have. They have a long, full length rail and you can add a weaver mount sight to it, IIRC, plus they have good ghost rings of their own.
Then you have to figure out a proper front sight height to match up with the sight, and I know nothing about that.

You can't fix eye an dominance issue with a scope or red dot. Whichever eye is dominate is the side you have to learn to shoot with.
If he is left eye dominate, he needs to start training right now to shoot left handed.
There is no other answer.
As for a scope recommendation, a real rim-fire or air-gun scope will have the parallax set for 50 yards or so.
Hi-Power scopes are set for ...

The AMSEC is 10 gauge and 14 gauge. I have verified this myself with AMSEC at a level above the customer service reps that answer the phones.
The reason the lighter steel of the AMSEC would offer similar brute force resistance to the thicker steel of the Sturdy is because of the rigidity formed by the cement material formed between the two sheets of steel.
Take cardboard for example. ...
