Hi gents/ladies: My wife has been driving my '85 Jetta diesel while at UBC and she called a couple weeks ago complaining that the car is starting horribly, smokes and doesn't run well at highway speeds. I was down but didn't have my tools or a lot of time to troubleshoot, but what I did was change the fuel filter (was fairly new anyway), removed the in tank 'screen', which was partially clogged with gunk (algae....),...

thanks a lot you guys, im going to try to send him to tims place at thomas sports tuning. i talked to him on the phone and he was all about tdi club and helping me out. i figure if he checks it out and tells me everything is alright ill go ahead and buy it sight unseen, since i live down in san diego.

My father bought the white sportwagon from VW in Daly City on Wednesday, I got to drive it briefly on narrow country roads yesterday... wow! It's the tiptronic Auto, and I'm used to a 5-speed stick, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. This is one very nice engine... And yes, I'm rather proud that my father is a new convert to Diesels.

i am trying to buy a 99 golf in the san rafael area just north of san fran, but the seller doesn't seem entirely trustworthy and doesn't have any reciets for the work that he claims he has had done on it. i was wondering if anyone in that area knows of a good mechanic that can check the car out for me to let me know what kind of shape the car is truly in. thanks so much for the help, tim

I couldn't believe my eyes when I pulled into my favorite station today and saw ULSD at $2.85. The station is a Union 76 at the NWC of Burbank Blvd. and Topanga Canyon Blvd. It's just a very short block north of the Ventura Freeway on Topanga. Traffic can make getting in and out hard, but the station lot does connect with the Denny's lot to the west which makes exiting a bit easier. I think word ...

i love these gtg's, but I'm a little different breed than some of you... i can't talk cars so much, but i'll drive the hell out of them. So no wrenching, unless someone ends up on the side of the road of course. i'm proposing to meet up at the abandoned restaurant at skyline/german town at the SW end and plan out a route so that turtles can meet up with rabbits (or golfs ) at various stops......
