Put a new glow plug relay and fuel filter in my son's '98. It was running like crap, so badly he took my '97 to school last week. The car runs properly now, but I still have the "glow plug monitoring--intermittent" fault. I don't know if that's the harness or what. I'm interested to see how it does on a cold start tomorrow AM.

HID Projector Retrofit

I'd probably bake them if I were to take mine apart again. I did before but I don't think I did it long enough. I marked up the edges of the plastic pretty good prying it with stuff.

Upgrade Shocks and Struts
Published (2008-11-25 08:07:00)
I just put in Bilstein TCs. I wasn't going for "upgrade" so much as "not dead." Out of my old shocks and struts, I could compress them between my hands, and one of them rebounded overnight. I had to lean on the new ones and they would rebound instantly. At first they seemed bouncy and harsh, but after 1000 miles they seem to have settled down and the steering is MUCH better. My front end went from 14.25...

Okay I would like to replace the speakers in my 2000 Jetta. I have done it serveral times in the past and know what brand I like. Also I have made things fit, but don't want to this time. What I'm really looking for is opinions on ease of install, and fitment. I'm planning on buying them from Crutchfield. They say a ton of different stuff fits, but I want your guys opinions. Already have an...

Early this year I pulled my tranny for a quick swap of the factory diff to a much less failure prone Peloquin. The weekend project turned into a month-long rebuild of my 02J. I made sure everything was perfect. All bearings and seals were replaced, the synchros for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were swapped, and fifth gear was upgraded as well. Along the journey of discovery it became abundantly clear ...

It's been about two weeks since I up-graded my headlight / driving light system, and the results are more than I had hoped for. (see my post of 11/20/08 on this forum) For the third time in that short period of time, they have literally saved my butt. This morning I watched a huge buck walk out of a field and stop in the middle of the road in front of me. I had seen him coming about 1/4 - 1/2 ...

Well I've got some bi-xenon projectors, shrouds, etc on order and I'm going to be retrofitting them into my stock housings. I've done a lot of reading up on retrofitting, but was just wondering if anyone on here has retrofitted a MKIV golf headlight. I know the Jetta has been done forsure. What projectors did you use? How did it turn out? Any hints/tips/tricks/photos you'd like to share? I will...

I used to tell my wife they could be Porsches. Then it would be expensive. Or I could sell everything in the driveway and get one five series BMW.

Passat 3B/3BG Automatic (remote) opening of the boot Hi, I was able to adapt the additional springs from A6 (about 30€ total for both springs) to my passat 3BG. These springs open the boot completely, and not just the "pop" of 0,5 centimeters. The 3B works the same... maybe other models like jetta, a4, a6 (without this feature) I had to build some parts from the ...

I know one shouldn't idle a diesel, and I agree that excessive idling is crap. But i do hate sitting on an ice cold seat and it gets darn cold here. I'm wondering if anyone has experience setting up a remote starter to initiate the electrical system, without starting the engine. Then, prior to leaving the car, you would turn the fan and other electrical off, and just turn the seat warmers on. I ...

Hello all, I've been looking at the site and seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people about VWs and TDIs. I am about to be a first time owner. I am in the military stationed in Germany and I am have first rights to a sportwagen TDI. I'm sure many of you know these vehicles are hard to get, especially U.S. spec vehicles here. I really wanted a TDI with Nav and the panoramic sunroof,...

I've been gathering up all the parts I need to do an OEM+ TT Big brake upgrade (280 MM to 312MM rotors with the much larger ). I figure that the stock brakes are perfectly fine to stop a car with 90 HP and 155 ft lb/tq but at the targeted 180HP/320 ft/lb, I'd better get a brake system engineered by the factory for something that powerful...thus the TT Brake upgrade. I wonder if there is anything...

Tires Folks, Time for new tires for the 2003 Jetta Wagon. I was going to wait until winter, and start with a set of snow tires, but I now have two tires with slow leaks (one that was just recently patched, and now a 2nd). The tires I have currently are some generic brand the previous owner had (think they are "Westlake" something or other). Since its too ...

this is what i've come up with as the most ideal sound system for me. i have the Monsoon right now and it just sounds "loud" to me. loud in some way that is annoying and almost painful to my ears. i know that may not make much sense, but if you have a Monsoon, you probably understand. anyway, i want to completely gut the system out fully and replace it all. if anyone has any tips on ...
