The Golf TDI's start at $22,189, but it has more standard goodies, too. My 2000 Golf had a base price of $16,500 or so with less goodies. Consider a decade of inflation there. It's really not too bad. Though the MINI looks cool on the outside, it's got a cheap interior. I'd MUCH prefer a Golf. And you'd be surprised how much a MINI costs when you add options.
