The 2.0T is a very smooth engine, and efficient enough for a 200 hp gasser in a $30k+ automobile. Driven carefully, and assuming the same 70 liter fuel tank, a Passat CC will still be able to make 600 miles per tank on the highway. At least I can with my Passat wagon, in the summer. I don't think the economics of a diesel will add up on this side of the Pond. A wagon is a better candidate for a diesel, I would think.

Isn't the B5.5 TDI's total fuel tank capacity including reserve to be 62 liters? IF that is the case, then we are talking 8 liters difference with the B6's 70L. I really hope the development of green'er' cars and smart environmental technology proceeds at the current pace despite the current economic situation. Even if gov'ts run deficits to fund these developmental programs, when we come out the other side and fuel is even more difficult to obtain we will be so much farther ahead.
