The other thing to consider is that just because it is -35 outside does not mean it is -35 inside your car, even if it is outside. I wouldn't be surprised if it were 10-15 degrees warmer in the car. Unless of course you let your car sit for days outside without starting it. I dunno, just a thought.

If you are certain that the bulb itself is fine, I'd suggest you grab a multimeter and a wiring diagram. Other than that you won't see where it comes from.

Most electronics are that way, usually because solder will shrink and expand. If it gets too cold it could shrink too much and actually break a contact.

It strikes me as unlikely, but it would be a logical fallacy to rule it out.

The code means that the ECU thinks the catalytic converter is not working properly. The rear sensor is what tells the ECU what's happening. FYI - bank 1 refers to whichever side of the motor cylinder 1 is on (only important on 'V' engines). Sensor 1 is the front sensor, 2 is the rear.
I've seen exhaust leaks cause codes. You'd have to be running real rich to trip the rear sensor - I've ...

If there is an Advanced, AutoZone or O Reillys they should have a tool they
will use to scan your car. Maybe not as fancy as a Vagcom but it might give
you an answer. Also some folks ask on the regional groups for local Vagcom
owners who will scan for free/nominal fee. I think there is even a Vagcom
owners list somewhere on the tdiclub.

Koo-ell. This might be what I need to get the Cabrio's cruise to work. I have one of those three "brake switch" signals constantly made, thus leaving the cruise control unable to activate because the ECU thinks the brakes are applied.
f.w.i.w.: My white GLX to TDI B4 didn't have this issue.

When done correctly, the car will no longer think it has the TPMS option installed, even though some hardware is in place... just not used. I've done this for a few cars that had aftermarket rims without issue.
I'm not sure how one would cause a car to not communicate with the factory scan tool via coding only. You might turn off module A via coding of module B, but you can go back to module...
