I just bought a dealer battery, the part number given earlier in this thread as the correct one for our TDI's. An interesting note. The first dealer I called carried interstate batteries and said they were the same thing as OE. Next dealer I called said their batteries had a VW part number on them. I went to the second dealer and got the translucent plastic sided varta, big VW sticker on the side. I guess the moral is not all dealers will...

Well stop and think for a moment. The battery light comes on when the alt isn't working. The CEL light will remain on until the engine is running. With the engine not running the alt isn't spinning, and it's not running so the CEL will be on. If all the idiot lights go out after the engine has started you have no problems.

how healthy is your alternator? Have it checked at autozone, they do it for free.

You installed a new battery. Have you found a way to change out the battery without disturbing the connections to the battery, because I think you could make some serious money on that technology

My GP light comes on for a few seconds, but never the 8-10 range, and my cold-start performance has been terrible for years. Do you think I have a bad CTS? Is it really 8-10 seconds (1-mississippi, 2-mississippi, etc) ?

OK, so i have been having starting issues and even though my battery was newer it was from a chain store and I figured it didn't have enough amp hours. So I bought a new dealer battery less than an hour ago. Long and short of it is I have a new dealer battery at 12.5 volts and with the key on but engine not started I have a check engine and battery light lit. as soon as you start the car they ...

I've been having issues with slightly longer cranks when my TDI sits for a while (as in, 8-10 hours while I'm at the office). I checked my timing and it's 'with in spec, slightly advanced' just as most 'gurus' advise. background: As I understand, the factory glow plugs don't turn on until the ECU observed temperature is 40-deg F or below. One way to 'fool' them temporarily is to 'unplug...

2" lift in A4 wagon is sweet! I have to pass along my complete satisfaction with and endorsement of the Charles Meglio lift kit. After owning my 03 wagon for 6 months and hitting numerous frost heaves, ice chunks, sticks, and road kill I decided to give this a try. I had Herm @ Wits End in Richmond, Maine do the install and was impressed with his knowledge of these ...

I seem to have unwittingly encountered some glow plug confusion with PD engined TDIs (A4 and B5.5). I had been carrying Bosch ceramic glow plugs for some time, but they have been hard to purchase lately so I've been buying OE plugs, first from my local dealer and then from another supplier. The OE number I've stocked is N105 916 01. Today I received some replacement glow plugs from my ...

2002 Golf TDi GLS 4-dr with 4-wheel disc brakes. My problem started about 1 year ago. When I come to a quick stop, and immediately drive-off again, the brake warning audible alarm sounds 3 times, and the red brake warning light (not the ABS light) flashes 7 or 8 times. This happened every few weeks for the first while but lately it happens almost every day, at least once. Had the original ...

I recently (two months) replaced the coolant temp sensor in my '03 Jetta Wagon TDI after getting P0118 code. I also replaced the 109 Relay about a month ago. I did this in hopes that my cold starting issue would be fixed. And at the time, I believed that this helped. I read this in one of my searches as a possible fix for this issue. Also a very cheap fix and since the car is 5 years old I ...

So I just finished a 14,000 miles trip with my '03 Jetta Wagon (Now with 174,000 miles). The tires were not in great condition to begin with, and I did go some places I probably shouldnt have, on some pretty ough roads, and non-roads. Lets just say I'm REAL happy to have that skid plate! Anyway... about 3000 miles ago I started noticing a vibration from the left side. Couldnt tell, but thought...

I have a 2001 Jetta TDI. Is the battery supposed to have some sort of mechanical mounting hardware or does the battery just drop in the plastic battery box and that's good enough? My car doesn't seem to have any sort of mounting brackets.
