Fuel Dilution Testing Protocol
Published (2008-11-28 06:39:00)
I think this leads back to the issue of evaporation. As specified prior, D2 evaporates easier than bioD and therefore the propper fuel dilution testing protocol on UOA's should be performed to determine safe OCI's when using bioD. I can only assume that VWAG engineers have based the factory 10K OCI recommendation with D2 fuel dilution being part of the equation on a normal operating engine. You would have thought G.W. Bush was...

Additionally Zoomer, (Didn't read your post fully) A dual tank grease setup would not work for your type of commute, because, you have to drive the car until the engine coolant eaches a particular temperature before switching to the grease in your second tank. In the type of climate you are living in, you probably would not reach temp by the time you got to work, and in cold climates, you cannot leave your car parked while on grease for...

A good way to start would be to collect a couple hundred gallons of WVO. That would be a minimum quantity to keep on hand anyway. You will quickly find out if it is hard to come by in your area.... and you can still use it as WVO or make BIO-D with it at that point so your options would still be wide open. You should also check out: http://www.greasecar.com/forum_view.cfm?frmID=1 The above link is where the true experts in WVO hang out. You...

Strike one: short trips. It will not get warm enough to use significant veg-oil during your normal driving. Strike two: your self admitted lack of mechanical skills. Strike three: the fact that you are focused on the economics of this. If you read other threads on this forum, you will find it wise to budget a fair bit for replacing parts. Look into biodiesel instead.

Waste Engine Oil anyone?

Something to consider when deicding if it's a good idea is what kind of leftovers will be left in the exhaust stream after burning this oil and what will it do to the exhaust system? And what is the reason you want to run waste oil? If it's because you want to save money on fuel, what will the cost be to clean the fuel and will you actually save money? Sorry, I don't have a ny data for yo on these things, but it's just...

Got Biodiesel? Got six bucks and a one-gallon can? Usually I'm bored by the routine whines about high fuel prices, since I figure I'm way ahead of the game with a CAFFFE (Cumulative Family Fleet Fuel Economy average of 40 mpg. But oh, Sweet Jesus, when I asked about the price of biodiesel here in Denver today, I was rocked back on my heels. Blue Sun B100 is now $6.11/...

Hi, Am getting ready to invest in my first Jetta TDI. And am considering having a WVO system installed. I'm still deciding whether or not a WVO solution is for me. Personally I feel it's important to pursue a WVO solution for the economic advantage, but also for philosophical reasons - to me it's about having the freedom to manage your own fuel source and not have to rely (as much) on ...

I stopped by Taylorsville Shell this evening for some B100, but found the pump was non-functional. Given the temperature was in the 30s all day and that the B100 has not been winterized yet I assume it is gelled solid.

Hello all, My dad and I started making Biodiesel this summer, having good results and I need some information on winterizing. He wants to add gasoline to prevent gelling, ( very old school type ), rather than blend D2 or K1, ( really doesn't want to put K1 in because of the dye). Thanks

Greasecar MotorSports-Grease Powered Baja 1000 Just thought I would throw this out there since the engine is a TDI. Greasecar has teamed up with a race team and they will be running the Baja 1000 on grease. Don't know if it will be new SVO or WVO, but interesting none the less. http://www.greasecarmotorsports.com/ Link to page with info on the engine: http://...

I have a 2002 Golf TDI with 92,000 mi. I began using BD at around 60,000, sometimes heavily, sometimes in small quantities. At my 80,000 mi service, the mechanic (BAR Tuning in Houston) said that my FIP seals were starting to leak due to BD use and suggested that I let him install a viton seal kit while the timing belt was off. I did that in February. Now it is November, and the car began...

Well... I'm not a mechanic. I can only go on my experience. Over 5 years on B100 and winter blends on my '03 Golf TDI. No problems what-so-ever as of 113,000 miles. Maybe I've been lucky. I've always used "factory" biodiesel that meets spec.

Since this substance is considered to be a dangerous chemical product, it's hard to get. What's the easiest and safest way to get it, if I want to make my own biodiesel?

I took delivery of my 2009 Jetta TDI (base model, manual transmission) last week. I bought it with the express purpose of using B100 exclusively. The dealer (Charles Maund VW in Austin, TX) immediately said I would void my warranty. After some verbal back and forth, I wound up emailing them some information about the Magnuson Voss Act, including a letter from the Oregon Auto Dealers Association ...

I have access to 300-400 gallons of old biodiesel that was commercially made. It is in plastic totes. Some has a little water in it - settled of course. The biodiesel looks clear and pretty good. Would you use it in a 92 Dodge, the VWs or not at all??? I would, of course, change my oil much more frequently.

The obvious thing to do would probably be replace the thermostat.. I don't believe that it is broken...I was thinking one of those seasonal changes being part of the cause..in addition to the fact that my car has all of that extra coolant hose running to the tank in the back of the car. Can I block off the rad? What do people use? cardboard behind the grill? Any other ideas? ...

If you live in one of those cities I recommend seeing it. I saw an early version at the Santa Cruz film festival and loved it! I know they've made some changes to it so I can't wait to see it again. That may be hard to do though as they've got a very limited run in theaters at this time. I guess I need to bug my local "independent" theaters so I can see it here in S.F. http://...
