components or full range?

I would always recommend mounting the passive x-overs in the trunk where the amps are. The cost to run 4 pair of wires compared to 2 is negligable. Also keep in mind that the inductors (coils) in them are able to pick up alternator noise if they are close to any positive or negative power wires. Plus it's easy to swap phase between the tweet and mid to see if it sounds any better. It's also easier to adjust any tweeter level controls...

Can't remove radio with...

Couldn't wiggle it & I found out why today, just as I suspected someone who didn't know what they were doing jammed something too hard in it and sprung the spring clips too far. Even completely taking apart the dash, removing the heater / radio support with radio in tact, removing the divider piece it still took a bit of prying with a screwdriver to get the clip moved back to where I could get the radio out. Once out I bent...

If you have the entire interior including the seats out, the doors, the dash, and trunk all completely accessible, it's no problem. You also have to swap out the hood latch, door latches, and trunk latch. And the connectors and boxes from the trunk, along with every wire connected to that part of the harness. If it doesn't plug in somewhere, it goes to a sensor you have to move... I looked into this; it's really not worth it;...

ALTERNATOR help
Published (2009-11-29 17:05:00)
i found 1 off a 200 mustang that looked the same other than the plug was more to the side but i dont think that will matter..the guy at the pull a part place said it was interchangable and so i got it..every thunderbird had the alternator removed so pickings were slim..

youre better off getting a new or rebuilt one. if you think about it the alternator youre going to get is old too. if you get the new or rebuilt one they usually give you lifetime warranty (autozone)

amp problems i think
Published (2009-11-29 03:14:00)
Did you disconnect the battery when doing all of this? If not it's possible that you fried the old amp. Obviously if the wiring is back to the way it was and you still have the problem there is an internal problem with the amp. The only solution for that is to either have it repaired or replaced.

ALTERNATOR help

If your pulley and Voltage regulator are okay, I have used one from a Grand Marquis in the past when I went to the pick-n-pull. I just swapped mine over, but I had a 94 so I don't know if the regulator changed in any way. Stephen

components or full range?
for those of you that have changed your front speakers, would you recommend components or full range? if you went with components, where did you mount your crossovers? where did you mount your tweets? am I right in guessing that the place where they sound best isn't where they look best and vice versa?

I put a double din Pioneer AVH-p4000dvd in my bird. I just cut the little bar that separates the original AC and radio holes. Then I moved my A/C controls to the bottom, it works great except for the big gap at the top (like an inch or so). Later on I will be putting LEDs in plexiglass for indicator lights and I'm filling the gap!

Did you accidently flip the LPF switch over to HPF?

I would suspect so. When I unplugged my keyless module the lights did not function, so probably.

I almost want to say it sounds like there's some overheating going on.
