You should expect an average of 4-6ft but there are lulls even in january where it gets smaller. december/january is usually when we get the solid NW swells and yes it can get pretty large at times. Im not sure about smaller breaks but if it macking i surf the cliffs as it can hold just about any size and has channels to paddle out in. Id say its probably not the best season for beginer and you might want to try search out beaches that dont...

No I totally agree. Summer is deffo the best time to go. Everybody should give up going in the autumn and winter, there really is nothing to see at that time of year. *tuneless whistling*

If you insist on going to surf cruise (please be extra careful and practice a lot before you go), join the Bounty hotel cruise. Go to www.balibountycruises.com and I know Quicksilver also has a cruise ship, but not sure if they go to surf spots (I think if it's run by Quicksilver, it should). Good luck mate!

Best beaches depends on your ability really and also type of board you ride. At least that's what I've learned. My mate whose much better than me rides a 7'2" and rides Head and overhead. I ride a 8' minimal and am currently limited to chest height. But if your question os more to do with which spots are more likely to be working than others, then I pass to the more experienced dudes who I'm ...

Where can we go to do some begginner surfing in Sumatra? We've done a bit before, and want to hang out on the beach, and not drop our life saving on a surf camp. We want the "do it yourself", rent a board and just go. Any tips?
