NE party boat tuna - blanks
Published (2009-12-20 21:57:00)
Drew, the HErcules GTS 70H aka Jigga 70H wsa designed specifically for PB TUna jigging. It is lighter than any other composite blank in it's class at 7.2oz (6.8oz if you cut it form 7'2 to 7'), yet it has wall thickness, and action to effectively allow you to fish it on the rail. I wanted a rod that when you put it on tehrail, it will not bend into the foregrip - this is what happens wiht CAlstar grafighters, even with their...

reel seat placement?
Published (2009-12-20 12:38:00)
Its usually different depending on a spinner (shorter) or conventional (lomger). Not knowing more I would say 24 for a spinner and 28 for a conventional is safe for someone your size. If you are a really good caster and very athletic , these would both be longer. I assume if you were a very good caster you would already know where you want the reel seat.

I think the Seeker CSB909, Calstar GF900M and Codlione are all pretty even, of course they need to be trimmed for the weight. There also is a new Super Seeker Montauk cod blank that might be of intrest!!

I don't want you to think my intent was to talk you out of using them, just to let you know what you were getting into and hopefully get you to do enough research to be able to make an informed decision, which it looks like you have. Honestly, if I were you, I'd get myself a pile of BMNAGs, a 30, 25, 20, 16, 12 and plenty of 10s or 8s and start playing around with some of the ideas you've come across. Go through the process of...

Best hand wrapper and tension system ever: Two V blocks (a 2X4 with a notch cut in it in the shape of a V lined with felt to protect the rod), then you take a coffee mug, put your thread in that, take a dictionary (we don't use those anyways), run your thread threw the dictionary, then place the mug on top of the dictionary and wrap away. The # of pages deep you place your thread is your tension adjustment. Finest tension adjuster in the...

ITs' easier to wrap a single strand of thread to secure all the guides, form butt to tip and only insert the tie off loop at teh top. Spiral the thread between guides, and underneath the guide ring.
I didn't think about this - with a power wrapper this takes about 5 minutes to wrap al the guides on the rod. By had its a never ending process.
IMO - spend $15 on TOm Kirkman's book.

Billy Vivona = - lol.
The Seeker Hercules Jigga GTS 70H is the heaviest right now, it will handle jigging up to 16oz depending on if the tip is trimmed (factory rod will be good for 12), and if tip trimmed 24oz will be OK with a ...

Yes Seeker Seeker Seeker..They make a great tuna blank & rod....
In the 5'6" to 6' rods black steel & the super seekers are both very nice..I like the bend of a Super seeker better but I fish off a Pvt boat..You may be better off with a Black steel faster taper...
Over 6'6" to 7' or longer Super seeker 2x4 will take just about any fish you can hook...Put an avet or accurate 30 on it cant ...

For the past umpteen years have been useing Dales Crystal Coat. The pot life is forever, vicosity thin, have used it on fly rods to off shore heavy sticks. I know Dick French handled it recently, but havent had any response from him as of late. Question: Does anyone know if crystal coat is still available. Or does an equal exist? rodder

Custom is the standard lol. When I set my surf rods up I do my arm length, which is 24in, which happens to be the factory length of the old Fenwick rods I love to fish with. I'm 5'9'' and that's comfortable for me. Even though you are taller I wouldn't go much longer then 26in. Remember when you're reeling in the fish you don't want your reel in your face. Plus I assume the all star 1208 is a ...

I'm in on just about all the dates. I know you've done a bunch of the grip
set ups but I just started getting into these just now, and some of the
complex layouts still aren't jiving with me.

If you are looking for a 9' Seeker = CSB 907 which will throw 1-4 and is Moderate, or the CSW 908 which has a mod-fast action and tosses teh same weight. That 90H is a heavy blank, both 9'ers I mentions weigh 8.8oz & 7.9oz respectively.
YOu really are looking at 2 blanks on opposite ends of the spectrum. TEH COmposite Seekers will haev a softer, easier to cast action, whereas teh graphite ...

Lowrider use , numbers and locations can be pretty tricky. Almost impossible to do like normal guides where you can get close with recommendations. You really should let a builder do it for you who knows what he's doing.
Barring that , go to the FUJI site and see if you can just follow one of their cookbook layouts for a similar length rod.
