How to make eyes on Deceiver?
Published (2008-11-27 00:22:00)
I would this 5 minute epoxy with a drop of alcohol and coat the fly head. once before putting on the stick on eyes and one coat after you add the stick on eyes. I have been using Loons wader repair lately but its UV light activated. You have to buy a UV light as well.

How about Mr. Popovics Hollow Fleye BT Deceiver Surf Candy Flatwing is a good choice, Ray's Fly, as mentioned, is a great stand alone pattern when tied properly. Problem is to those that are unaware of their effectiveness they just look blah.

Guys -- Thanks for all your nice comments, and I'm flattered you like the fly. I'll try to write something up one of these days, but am just swamped at work and have computer problems at home. If and when, I'll try to give a better explanation of the procedure, but for now, here are some thoughts. First, go to www.aswf.info and check out Steve Farrar's great MV Baitfish videos. His procedure is a little different than mine...

From my take on things West Coast fishermen prefer bushy, broader flies with lots of flash due to the waters in No CA being more stained. At least that is what the Delta guys have said...............Most of Blantons flies are tied EXTREMELY full and with flash tails. The bass out west love that silhouette. HC

Talkin' 'bout tube-flies
Published (2008-11-26 14:00:00)
FWIW, I was poking around on the global fly fisher web site last night and found a lot of info and instructional type pictures on tying tube flies, types of tubes, etc. If that's your area of interest, it looked like a great place to visit, but I think you do have to dig into the site to get everything out of it.

I am just starting fly tying... If you paint it, where did get the paint and brush? I bought sticker with eye from a local shop, and put it on the fly. But I doubt it will come off once it touch the water. what should I do to let it stick on the fly head?

Here's an extension of some flies I've been messing with recently using some kind of natural tail of bucktail and/or feathers and a head of "spun" kinky fiber blend hi tied and trimmed like deer hair. I started with smaller baits, like sandeels, but I'm now trying out some fuller bodied generic baitfish. I'm exaggerating the head profile to be a little fat, like a muddler minnow, to provide a ...

Here are two home grown flies that have obvious influences. Both have been highly productive in the lower Chesapeake this season with yields of rocks, hick shad, blues, etc. Guinea Jig – Obvious influence from the Clouser Minnows. This pattern (root beer and pink) has been very effective. Tying Instructions – http://picasaweb.google.com/DaveBWilliams/...

Funny enough, a question got asked on another forum about why we don't use tube-flies for Bass (the European variety). So I decided to take the plunge and tie one up for a demo. In Ireland (like Scotland and wherever else in W Europe and elsewhere) tube flies get used a lot for salmon. So why not for Bass? Tied on a good solid metal tube, they'll get right down in a current, and have the ...

I'm in the market for a new line of synthetic dubbing. I've been using the "Super Bright" brand and I've posted a ton of flies here that used it. The resluts I've been most happy with are when I shred the dubbing and mix it with Martinek's flash. It's a lot of work. I think I'm looking for something corser and chopped finer. Basically; more like seal fur. Maybe I want to use seal fur? At ...
