Urologists do plenty of diagnosing. The difference is that patients show up for specific issues, and much of the diagnostic work and decision-making is algorithmic. More importantly, for your sanity, there is an end-point for each particular problem, as opposed to an open-ended parade of chronic medical problems to juggle that you would deal with as an internist.

Mediocre Grades
Published (2009-11-10 16:47:00)
I'm a 3rd year student with mediocre basic science and clinic grades (mostly high passes and passes with a couple honors). I am about to take my Step 1 in Feb since that's when most people at my school take it. I haven't done any research as of yet. How can I best maximize my chances of matching into Urology? I would love to get a Uro residency in New York.

Sorry, can't cite any sources. Would assume any publications on this subject would be far in the past. Nothing in the current textbooks that I could find. Try searching forniceal rupture, that is what most urologists call this condition. Back in the day of IVP for ureteral stones, we saw these commonly. Actually, patients who rupture a fornix usually feel better and have less acute ...

Hi guys, I'm an MSIII, almost MS IV female medical student and considering urology. I definitely feel the male dominated vibe that comes from urology and have doubts...time and again. But Did you ever think about the fact that many men are homophobes and many get disgusted by idea of man on man contact. So it's funny why a ...

write some papers. get in good with your chair and pd. do away rotations in your target regions. get to the know the chairs and program directors at those programs. be nice to the residents there. all those common sense things. don't be annoying.

This forum is for DO students interested in urology to share about the + and - of the different programs that you rotate at. Note that there are currently programs in Philly, Chicago, Charleston WV, NJ, Michigan x4, and Olympia Fields IL. There is very little online info out there for DO students pursuing Urology so this forum could be helpful for everyone.
