Time's short - UW or Goljan??
Published (2009-12-28 00:12:00)
The questions should be at 150-200 per day for the last 2 weeks, but definitely review FA at the same time and definitely listen to Goljan. As for RR, take your 3 weakest areas and read through those chapters in Goljan RR.

UW vs. Qbank
Published (2009-12-28 01:16:00)
General consensus that I've encountered in my experience with step 1 is that Kaplan is slightly more difficult and more minutiae based. UWorld is more logic based and more like the real exam. If you have to get one, get UWorld. Plus it's cheaper. But they're both more than adequate for boards prep.

DIT 2009 and FA 2010
Published (2009-12-28 12:34:00)
So I ended up giving into the 2010 FA. Any idea whether DIT 2009 will start work out with the new version? I understand that the page numbers and some of the content is different but I would really like to hear from some one whether its doable. So if anyone who took the 2008 online course w/ the 2009 book can comment it would be extremely helpful. Thanks. p.s: I can't wait for the new one since my deadline to take the step 1's is...

Binding vs. Unbinding First Aid

while ill probably mix in a few diagrams/charts from other sources with my unbound FA, i think the biggest reason I'm going to do it is so I can write in the "medial" (sorry) margins better. I guess I might be a little borderline freak about neat notes though

In my experience the Kaplan intense prep review was a very good review, however I would recommend looking through any material you aren't really solid on before attending. There simply isn't enough time to teach it all, just review. Also, make sure they are utilizing all 15 days. When I went we only had classes like 11 of the 15 days and they totally skipped biochem, immuno, micro, behavioral,...

Is there a pattern to the types of questions you are getting wrong in UW?
I find that I learn and retain information best when I'm asked to apply it, ie, doing questions.
One problem is that learning in this style can be pretty time consuming if you don't have the proper base.
I'm just starting my step prep; sorry I can't give a better answer.

I took the NBME comp also. My USMLE world average was pretty much a dead on predictor of my comp score. One of my friends took the step soon after and scored somewhere very close to his comp score.

I did about 40% of Kaplan when I was studying for Step I and did not find it very useful. Unless they've changed it in the last ~2 years, I wouldn't waste my time on Qbank.

Yea, I'm going to have a similar approach and I want to get about 240+
I also would like to know what others think of this plan.

I'm using Kaplan Home Study for everything except neurology because it's too damn long and boring to read. High-Yield Neuroanatomy is a good substitute. I plan on skimming through the pathology sections but my main source is BRS Pathology & Goljan audio.
I'm using additional books because of personal preference, not because Kaplan is lacking in these areas. If you use the set for all ...

No, I remember that the NBME specifically denied this a few years ago. I don't think this has changed.

Id say unbind it, add notes to it, and once its done..get it binded again..but bare in mind once it gets too thick (which it shud) it cant be unbinded...and then ull have to divide the book into two..so it all depends on how much your gonna add

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say its about a 6/10 in yield.
See if your library has High Yield Cell and Molecular Biology. I think its by Dudek. Quick read (<100 pgs if I remember right). And it prepped me for probably 90% of the cell bio ?s I encoutnered.

I feel the same way and didn't listen much to them before. although now I listen mainly to see if I can answer his Qs. Most of the time I have been able to. When I can't, I try to remember stuff he says as to what it is and why.

I believe that the answer is that the RBF will decrease. AT2 preferentially constricts the efferent arteriole (reducing RBF, and decreasing glomerular filtration) but that also increases hydrostatic pressure in the glomerulus (increasing glomerular filtration,) leading to roughly small or no change in filtration fraction.
So, the best answer is that RBF will decrease, because that is "for ...
