rant: does anyone else get this?

I actually feel the opposite way about when people bring up the competitiveness factor...or maybe it's just who have said it to me, but I always get the sense that it's a compliment, like saying "oh, isn't that really hard to get into?" implying that I must be really smart, not that I'm stupid and shouldn't be going for it. Or maybe that's just how I'm interpreting it...I've never felt...

I don't get this too often and I'm in the same boat as you more or less, I'm working full time, taking prerequisites, shadowing, etc and have been doing it for a couple years now. My advice if it's starting to get to you make up a story about an alternative. Something like: Yea I know it's hard but donating blood and semen just doesn't pay the bills as well as I would like... Or... Well I considered robbing banks...

PTAs graduating with a BS...
Published (2009-12-11 13:04:00)
I heard this concept recently. There's evidently talk about transitioning the associate PTA degree to a BS degree. Besides obviously decreasing the educational disparities between PTAs and PTs, what would be the rationale behind doing this? Does the APTA make these decisions? Do you find it likely that this transition would happen? What type of effect do you think it would have on physical therapy?

Vinganca, so essentially you're saying: 1. Get all pre-reqs 2. Apply via PTCAS 3. ??? 4. PROFIT! Seriously though, everything you said makes sense (to me). I wish the ATPA or PTCAS or somebody would require schools to give up their applicant stats broken down into the different categories. Would probably give you a more realistic view of schools you're able to get in to.

I'm sorely tempted to start lying to people about what I do. Because every time, without fail, the conversation goes something like this: Well-meaning But Ultimately Infuriating Acquaintances: "so what are you up to?/what are you in school for?" Me: "I'm taking pre-requisites right now; will be applying to physical therapy programs next year" Responses: "oooh, that's so hard to get...

No time for a lengthy response, but I'll write more when I can... DPT/MPT vs. OTD/MOT
Published (2009-12-11 08:42:00)
Just wondering what y'all think are the differences, benefits, and possible disadvantages of these. I have been on a PT track since high school and I just graduated from college, but lately I've been wondering about OT. I have been in some OT settings before and like it as well, it's just that I don't really know where to start or what to think since I've been on the PT track so long. Here are my thoughts: DPT - takes...

Don't bother retaking it. It's not the end of the world as long as your other grades are all right. I still got accepted even though I had C's in calculus, integrative bio, molecular and cellular bio, and physics I and II. Oh wow, I didn't know I had that many C's! O_O

There is a similar thread in here comparing the two. I wouldn't say the two are similar at all. Of course, this too depends on the Chiro and what their treatment philosophy is. Only finishing my first semester of my first year. How time consuming is it? Not as much as I expected. You get a free night every once in a while to have some fun. You have to be an efficient and effective studier, or else you'll be stuck in the library forever, learning all the wrong things. If you're good at A&P type stuff will you be ok in PT school? You'll be "okay" in PT ...

One of the draws to the profession for me was the ability to switch between specialties. Talking with PTs I have found some of them have switched specialties or into different settings outpatient vs inpatient. To move "up" you have to move, demand more money, be the best, or go to the administrative side of things (owning your own clinic etc). I would contest that PTs have more ...

I'm applying to UF, UCF and USF. I'm fairly confident I'll get into UF and UCF. I've heard USF does rolling admissions but the site indicates it doesn't so I emailed them and have gotten no response yet. I need to know if I should apply to USF now or wait like I am the other schools so I can get more volunteer hours.
