If anything else, if money's not a factor, I'd strongly recommend waiting until at least you've had a year of medical school under your belt before deciding about HPSP. It will have no impact on you, and you'd be amazed how much your mind may change or your goals shift after even just a year of medical school.

The plan as of right now is to convert 500 GMO billets to board certified billets over 5 years (100/year), which will bring GMOs down to about the same level as you see in the Army. That would mean all but the most competitive specialties would have straight thorugh training.
Most physicians on this board seem to be betting that this plan will stop...

Fourth year. You have lots of free time in fourth year. Plus, if you decide not to apply for deferment, you'll have nothing to do while everyone else heads off to interviews.

You can only get flight pay if you are in an aviation billet and you fly. Getting to fly is easy, but actual stick time will likely be more difficult. Theoretically, a non-pilot can only fly in a two-seat single pilot aircraft. Almost all of the Hueys have been phased out. All the rest of the Army's aircraft are dual pilot craft. My understanding is that an exemption to this rule ...

So, if you have an application pending before the JSGMESB, AKA Selection Board, then they might be talking about your application and deciding your future at the very moment you read this.

2:1 obligation (every 1 year of benefits = 2 years of drilling obligation).

I've had nothing but good experiances with USAA and I have all of my banking and insurance with them. The only thing to remember is that USAA doesn't have actual branch offices.
I don't know if the career starter loan has changed in the past 4+ years, but when I received mine, the bulk of the loan was financed through USAA so I was required to change my banking to USAA. I'm pretty sure the ...
