Hello SDNers...

If been a member for a while, but recently have told myself to participate more. This site has been very helpful for me. I'm a "non-trad", and have taken the DAT's once. Ugly scores, and it won't happen again. I've been hittin' it hard so I can reapply in May. I just finished chem odyessy along with Chad's videos, text books, road maps, wiki, google, and ass glue. A little burnt on chem for now,...

How much time you spend will depend on your background in the sciences and also how efficiently you study. If you take advice from SDN, it'll probably cut 2-5 weeks off your studying time, for example, focus on destroyer, topscore, cliffs AP bio. I did a science undergrad and felt i was comfortable with DAT material, so i studied for 3 weeks, 4-6hrs/day.

When to take DAT?
Published (2009-12-03 14:14:00)
There are literally hundreds on threads on how to prepare for the DAT. Simply use the search feature. If you're too lazy here's a list of what most people use: Kaplan BB, Topscore, DAT Destroyer, Cliff's AP Bio, Crack the PAT. And it's okay if you don't complete Biochemistry, the DAT science sections only cover lower level bio, chem, and orgo.

Kaplan books enough?

I think the blue book is very helpful. Use it as the outline and go back to your textbooks if you don't understand any topic. I didn't take the class though. I also used Top score, Barron's AP bio, destroyer, achiever.

someone correct me if i am wrong...
its not about how many reactions or how many mechanisms you know. just realize the basic patters...
do not go crazy memorizing all sorts of reactions. but concentrate on imp. ones. If you have a kaplan book they are in there ~100 reactions in the kaplan book alone.

I've used destroyer on my second dat and it was definately not enough. I bought CDP Math and it is ridiculously hard compared to destroyer. There isn't a source that has many word problems like the real test so I would go with the hardest there is and try to brush up on everything.

how kind of you to help fellow pre-dental students for a "small" fee. Lookin to make some money? lol What makes you think people are willing to pay you for advice when there are so many people on the SD forums who generously dole out advice for free. You motives might be altruistic but it just comes off as super arrogant...

I took the DAT in July and I studied about 3 months, 2-3 hours a day...but everyone is different.
I'm retaking it in the spring and I started to review for it again...nothing intense, about an hour or so a day just reviewing...by next month I'll be ready to jump in again!

Hopefully, none of the schools you're applying to have cutoffs for QR, because all your other scores are fine.

I have a laptop that I am selling to anyone that is looking for several study materials. This laptop includes DAT Achiever, Topscore Pro, Crack DAT, MATH and PAT. I also have several KAPLAN (Biology, Org Chem, Gen Chem, Math, PAT and 2 Full length) tests and answers for each test.
These are excellent study materials! (It got me into Dental School!!)
All the programs are on the computer, so...
