begbert2, I apologize for my tone in this thread. You are quite right...it won't have a major impact on price...there is no good reason why they don't put the information on the menus or on the products (or, perhaps they do, and I just haven't been to a McDonald's lately). I will bow out and leave you all to it. -XT

As a S Asian, Dubai people see my worth as little less than a Donkey, and definatly a lot worse than a camel. The gist is true, however I do think that the article is painting a much worse pic than is true. The Sultan guy had the right point, you can make any place sound bad.

It's just one of those things that companies come up with sometimes that's faddish. The only good I can see coming out of something like that is that it gets people doing things together in a non-work setting(even though it's sponsored by your job), which might bring people closer.

This is a pretty freewheeling OP that poses several different questions, (and different kinds of questions), about intellectuals and anti-intellectualism.
So I'll limit myself to two follow-ups.

Arguably, US economic policy has been geared around ameliating or disguising the true extent of that decline while still fielding the world's most ...

The word " misogynistic" has adapted to include pretty much anything that dehumanizes or infantilizes women.

I'm just curious how you think you can get a reasoned debate when you use such slanted and explosive language as that in your OP. You seem to be unaware that there are two sides to this debate, and that far from being the simple punch bunnies and passively oppressed (under the jackboots of those evil Israeli's of course) folks, the Palestinians have been active participants in the current fucked...
