Hey Dawg, I don't think the comparison shots are really comparable in a true one-by-one technical manner as some resolution chart shots would have been. That being said it is a much better comparison if you see it from another point of view: a real life situation comparison I can see a clear winner here, if you only judge by these pics and crops, and that's the Vivitar TX - when it comes to details and sharpness. Overall feeling I...

Daniel I actually can carry all of these plus more for miles. The diesel helps... I give it up. The type of pictures that I have been taking is definitely better for my back Daniel

The Old Dawg wrote: It is still a joy to me to use the others as earlier in my life I wanted these but could not affored them. Woof woof! I know it exactly! I could, I suppose, buy at least some new stuff but I enjoy the buying I would have liked in the past! Not just camera gear but also all the tools in the shed and of course my Lego trains! (Now I wonder if that little filly with the blue eyes and...

Mr Dawg, Enjoyed the post quite a bit, found it quite useful too! I don't use my longer lens that often but have a Sigma 70-300 DL Macro (nonAPO) for the odd occasion. It does the job but besides needing a lot of light the IQ is well.. average (not bad though). I can get hold of a Pentax K 300mm F4 at quite a good price but I'm not quite sure if the improvement would be substantial enought to offset the con's...

I decided to do this shootout several weeks ago and am just now getting to it. Right after getting my Meyer 300 f/4, lots of folks wanted to know how it stacks up against the Sigma 50-500 "Bigma" lens so here we go.. All photos were taken at ISO 800, 300mm, Auto WB and F/8. Post processing was done exactly the same for each photo. Photos were taken at a very similar distanc e but they ...

As some call it the Goriila lens. Originally made for medium format cameras, this lens has been produced from 1971-1990. Made in East Germany it changed names to Pentacon in the early 80's or so. Very heavy lens...Let me repeat that a Very Heavy Lens. 217mm long with the lens shade in place and weighs in at 2180grams...or nearly nearly 18 inches long and nearly 5 pounds. Very smooth focus ...

The Bigma.....What can I say..It has developed a cult status already. Very sharp from f/4 to the top and from 50mm to 500mm. Focus is not the fastest but is plenty fast for even small bird shooting. This is the one lens I Keep on my camera. It and the 18-55 kit lens cover the most used range so the 2 of them is really all that is needed. Not a light weight lens but I use it hand held most of...

Like I've said this is a very good lens. Viv's TX series of lens actually are as sharp wide open as they are at Any of the higher F/stops. This one was made by Olympus for Vivitar in the late 60's to the early 70's. There are quite a range of lens in the TX mount. Very similar to the Tamron Adapt-all mounting system it allowed you to keep your lens when swapping to a different brand of ...

It is a great walkabout lens. So light and compact you hardly know it is on the camera. Fairly fast focusing and a good bargain for those wanting a 300mm range lens and have little money. All but the last of these was shot at ISO 1100. I decided to go to ISO 800 so the last one was shot at that ISO. Dawg

The subject lens is being offered for sale locally for an asking price of $40. The seller claims it is in near mint condition which I can very by inspection. However, I was wondering if anyone had any opions of this lens in terms of its overall performance.
