INFANTS IN DAYCARE?
Published (2008-12-01 00:53:00)
Yep---that's my opinion! Single moms don't have a choice. Career moms with two healthy incomes and long work hours do. If those career moms decide to have kids and choose to SAH with them instead of handing them over to another woman to take care of all day, then I commend them. They chose baby over career and money, at least for a year or so. Mom will always have her diploma. Mom will always have her job experience prior to baby...

<<but jobs are scarce around here! >> and yet you advocate taking a full year off when baby is born because all of those jobs will be available when that year is over???? Right, and I have a bridge in Brooklyn that you can have -- for Free. eileen

So what kind of idiot would give up a good paying job in this economy? And what kind of whackjob would suggest it with the blythe assurance, "oh, there will always be jobs!" Tell ya what. Let YOUR dh give up HIS job for a year, and then we'll talk. **************** Kitty

Iwas going to the extreme with my example actually. You know, if I really did have a high paying job that I COULD afford it all for real. I know the likelyhood of that happening in real life is slim to none but since the main poster was using those ppl as an example I thought I would throw that scenario out there. I get what you're saying though, really I do. Many who DO have high paying jobs seem from the outside as being financially...

I don't agree... it was an assumption of how and why working moms use day care.

OT-Schools

in defense of public schools,i did want to address this.. Compared to the local public schools there really is no contest. The fighting, cursing, lac of respect for teachers, etc that I ahve seen in public schools is something I am not putting my girls in ...this sounds like only a stereotype. esp since you don't have your girls there. the public schools we've been a part of have been very, very good about influencing things like,no...

"Mom will always have her job experience prior to baby being born. Jobswill always be out there." Wrong. Experience goes stale fast in some jobs. And if you haven't heard, good jobs are not always there. Didn't you say jobs are scarce where you live? BTW, did you work between marriages? Or did you rely on welfare to support your kids?

>Honestly, I think the key to raising happy children is based on how much you actually like them. I'm completely serious. I assume that all parents love their children, but it's equally important to like them and find them interesting as people.< I agree. Liking one's children makes raising them a lot easier, ime. Chris

I am wondering if you look for anything in particular when you first choose what school your child will go to. Aside from the typical good teachers and good rep for being a good school, what other kinds of things might you consider? Like music programs, religious aspects, sports, I don't know, just whatever you might have looked into in addition to the obvious wants. My dd will be 4 in ...

OK, remember this is a debate board, and I am going to play devil's advocate here, so please let's play nice.  Everyone is entitle to their opinion, and others will strongly disagree, so just remember to respect each other!   Whew! Now here's the question:   If you are a woman with a great high-paying career, why do you decide to have a baby and then stick it in daycare for ...

It sounds like the major sin of these women is that they all had personal histories with each other and didn't bother hiding it when this blogger showed up. So they talked about dramas within and between their group of families. And???? Women at work do that too so long as they have been working together long enough. This woman wasn't witnessing some sort of unique-to_SAHMs-cattiness. She was...

In another thread, two separate points were made by separate people. One person mentioned (I'm totally paraphrasing here) that it doesn't seem like a few hours a day before and after work would be enough time devoted to spending with your child. Another person mentioned (paraphrasing again) that having lots of children would also prevent the mother from devoting more than a few hours per day ...

principals, administrators here get a nice bonus based on their school's report card.  frankly,i don't agree with it as i think the focus at a lot of these schools is more about getting their,"rating" than it the individual student..nevertheless,salaries aren't chicken feed.  teachers can afford to live on their salaries. it is "comfortable" pay for some if not most.
