D link has some nice routers. If your brother is using a lot of bandwidth that would be the issue, Im not sure if the 524 has QoS(quality of service) features or not but check around in the web admin.

you can try using 3rd party firmware if you router is supported as well. for my linksys WRT54G V8.1 i use the DD-WRT firmware which can be found at there site. Its linux based so its alot more stable (don't think i've ever reboot that router due to a crash).

Comcast / Wireless Router problem
Published (2008-11-19 10:25:00)
Comcast came out last week to swap services. One of our roommates moved out, service was in their name, and in order to get service in my name they had to turn in their hardware. The cable modem was mine, and I kept that. So basically comcast just came out and swapped the cable boxes. However, after the install, I have not been able to get wireless to work! They only tested it on the wired desktop connection, which is right by the cable...

I have a D-Link DI-524 router. Two computers are connected to it via wire, one is a brand new computer. When just the new computer is on the internet and my game runs smoothly. But when my brother uses his computer, my connection slows down drastically, espicially when he's watching streamed videos. Is this normal to happen when both computers are on to slow down? Is there anyway to speed up my ...

My static IP is ...

Can't get my AirPort Extreme router (that used to work with old Comcast modem) to connect with new Arris Touchstone telephony modem. I have an iMac OS 10.5.5 and iBook. I am a teacher, not real savvy. Comcast set the modem up when I wasn't there. Should I call Comcast techs or Apple support? I just stumbled on this site, so maybe someone here could help. Is this modem even compatible with Macs...

Well folks Comcast can be sneaky. Here is the issue. Your Arris Modem was most likely installed directly to a PC or Mac when either you or a technician installed. As soon as it connected it registered your MAC address from your NIC back at Comcast Central. Well now we need to make your modem think it is still talking to the PC or Mac it was hooked up to. Here is how! Find out what your NIC's MAC...

Before I go on I'd just like to stress how crap I am with computers and stuff, so if someone is kind enough to give me advice, please try and keep it dunce-friendly. PC: Windows XP Broadband: Toucan (think it's an offshoot of Tiscali) Wireless router/modem: Buffalo WBMR-G54 Not only is my internet going incredibly slow, my wireless devices are also having troubles (ie. PS3 can't ...

I have a netgear FVM318 router. I do not know how long I have had this problem but it has just now become apparent. I switched internet providers, and the second providers speed lets just say nicely, left a lot to be desired. When I called Knology(the second provider) they had me unplug from the router and go straight into the computer where the download speeds became what they were ...
