I've seen bad/fault/or
incompatible RAM cause issues with working with large files. Is the memory you have certified compatible with your motherboard?

Haven't seen you in a long time!
I'm a huge fan of Antec Sonata series cases....yeah a hair more expensive, but soooo nice and worth it. Nicer quality cases will have features such as rubber grommets for your hard drive mounts...keeps the drives quieter, and less vibration/shock impact to them (healthier for them).
On the budget side...Raidmax makes decent ones, actually my case at the ...

I've been agonizing over a
SSD purchase for a long time. It's good to hear things are that good. I'm not sure if I'll try SSD yet but I appreciate the info.

For 30x computers, sounds like a real "server" job. That's quite a load for just some desktop system to try to handle, especially if the application you're sharing is heavy.
IDE is old, like the
floppy drive, ISA cards, 9 pin serial port...shouldn't even be thinking about that.
SATA is current for desktops and lightweight servers.
SCSI, and the newer SAS...those are current for ...
