I have mixed emotions about this. If it hasn't broken under the loads I've put on it trying to maneuver to pull on the anchor from various directions under power, it seems highly unlikely that it will break under wind or current load. And if I do break it under power because for some reason I feel that I can't retrieve the anchor diving, then at least I keep my chain, which cost a lot more than my anchor.

winter = LOBSTER SEASON!!!!!! Also, there are still some Pelagics around - just not as thick as the summer. Look on BD: Aguy got a 30# YT at a kelp bed near dana point - which means it was probably cottons or salt creek. People shoot WSB year round, but usually it's smaller grade fish this time of year - 30#ish. Now is also a good time to shordive for rockfish, scallops, etc. I got a really nice cabezon just a little while ago.

Darren, the road down is about 58 miles to Alfonsinas. For a standard rig, whether 2 or 4wd, you are looking at 2-3 hrs. I made the run back up from there at the first Puertocitos meet in 1:35. It was a little bumpy, but well worth it!! Your biggest challenges are to avoid rain and wind. If the wind is blowing, you'll be landlocked, and shore diving. A kayak or panga will not be practical, or even possible. If it is raining, many of the...

Winter Boat Build '09-'10
Published (2009-12-01 20:51:00)
one of the few weak points of the Parker is the plywood deck under glass and the wood stringers...where the plywood has a knot, cracks often develop as the knot dries and shrinks...it needs to be repaired quickly or the ply will start to delaminate from the glass and rot...the other weak point is the horn..doesn't hold up for some reason....but, the Parker is one fine boat for diving and fishing....

The kelp actually starts growing back this time of year, and should be getting thick soon. But bass and a few other reef fish stick around all year. Most of us still go out.

I just bought a boat so the percentage will probably increase in the future. I try to get in 1-2 shore dives per week. Since I have to ditch work early to get out it is easier for me to shore dive than to launch the boat. But on the weekends when I don't have work it is boat diving all the way...if I can sneak out before the GF wakes up

You can easily make it in a 2wd, just go slow and watch out for the pumpkin-killers. Somebody will come up with better numbers but I think it's 45-50 miles past Puertocitos if I remember correctly. Beautiful coastline, you're going to love it!

Please note; I corrected myself in the post. The dive is at CORRAL BEACH. Malibu. Park on PCH at Corral canyon. Just south of Latigo Shores drive. If you dive Latigo, you would not need a kayak.

How warm do you want her to be? And how much money do you wanna spend? If she's gonna be doing it year round I'm guessing she's gonna need something a bit warmer, maybe even an open cell suit. And some nice fins. And eventually she'll pick up the gun; I haven't gotten my lady friend into the gun yet but getting the right suit made all the difference in the world. If she's comfortable, ...

Only thing that troubles me is that he is being charged with animal cruelty . Animal cruelty for shooting an animal in the head. I shoot lots of animals in the head....at least those where the weapon isn't dogs. Why not just charge him with having shot a protected species and the firearm violation ?
