White Sox sign Andruw Jones

All I said was I'd take that TYPE of season from my leadoff guy every time, I didn't say anything about signing Scutaro.

J4L, It's really difficult to point out guys that we can say with any certainty would have done better, especially considering they really didn't give anyone else a chance. How can I point to someone who did statistically better when they weren't allowed to pitch in the first place? And you and others will argue that the reason they didn't pitch is because the Organization didn't believe they were ready. And...

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) All I care is wins, by any means necessary. No you will not convince me that cheating is OK. No, it is not as bad as manslaughter, you brought up speeding and stealing office supplies, and if that is OK, then steroids is fine also. I elaborated and showed how we've always ha d a sliding scale. Go ahead and cheat and have someone read it to you. Bonds and the...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) I agree 100%. Look, I support the signing of Andruw Jones! Doesn't that tell you where I stand here? My issue has never been that veterans should never get a chance to rebound. We'll see what Jones does. He's not a difference-maker, but he's no-risk and potential good reward. It goes along with the belief that a veteran with a track record...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Fair enough. But really, do people really hate Bonds because he lied in court? C'mon now. That's just finding something, anything to rag on the guy about. You mean the guy who publicly chastised everyone who dared to accuse him of doing anything wrong, all of the way to calling them racist? Yeah, that is enough to change my opinion of the guy.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) I don't know why fans are so fixated on this deal. Jones won't get more than 200 plate appearances and he shouldn't. He may play the OF once every couple Sundays, but it's not gonna be often. The Sox just aren't counting much at all on Jones and the size of their offer proves it. He's making less then Dwayne Wise...

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) I was thinking more along the lines of what Marco Scutaro did last year, good contact (.282 AVG, 75 K), very good OBP, decent speed and not much in the way of power. Yeah, he had a nice season, but he has no position on the Sox. He's also 2 years older then the "ancient" 32 year old Andruw Jones.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Let me add that an "outsider" is not going to change the sport by saying, "here's a new idea: if you want to have a better chance of winning, you should try replacing your well-paid, contractually-bound, historically-productive, yet currently-struggling players with minor league players because it can't hurt." Unless...

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) The Red Sox seem to be desperate for a SS. They don't seem that interested in bringing back Orlando Cabrera or taking a stab at Miguel Tejada. That being said- that trade speculation John Heyman made a month and half ago may still work good for both teams. I believe it was Bobby Jenks and Alexei Ramirez for Elsbury, Bard and Okajima....

I can't believe anybody would even joke about signing Bonds. How old do you want to get?? How much slower do you want the team to get? He's a gigantic turd and has not been in baseball a while for good reason. Have you studied Bonds' story? He is one gigantic prick, he is old, slow, and hopefully out of baseball forever.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I was just thinking, what is K-Dubs next position in baseball? With the Sox? Moving to a bigger stage? He's about at the point where his personal value is probably peaked or slightly down from a few years ago. But he has proven he can GM a team to a WS win, then keep them around the top for years after. He is doing it with a larger payroll ...

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 24, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) Another idea if we could get Adrian for prospects: Konerko ($12M) + Linebrink ($5M in 10, $5.5M in 11) for Affeldt ($4M in 10) + Rowand ($12M in 10-12) + cash in 2012 Sox would cut $1M off the payroll. Affeldt would be the lefty setup man if Thornton becomes the closer, or else Affeldt would be the 2nd lefty. Rowand ...

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) I think KW is lining up something big coming up soon. He has to be confident that he can land either Upton, Gonzales, Figgins, or maybe even Miguel Cabrera. Otherwise, why would he be signing these older veteran guys to fill out the bench. If you didn't think you were going to have a legit shot at winning it, the more likely thing to do ...

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 01:26 AM) And we're ready to go. How is Troy Glaus a "type a" FA? Ok, either this has been edited, or I was hallucinating. Either is a perfectly good possibility.

Sad really, a few years using steroids and Baines would have been much closer to making it. The stats folks would be happy.
