Winter - Don Pedro Island or St....

St. Simons is wonderful. An island full of places to explore....stay close to the lighthouse and village. The lighthouse is closed for restoration, so you won't be able to climb it, but the village, pier and beach are great for walking. Christ Church (Eugenia Price books: Lighthouse, New Moon Rising, etc), Fort Frederica, and more to stroll through and ponder the people who walked there hundreds of years ago.... Recommend: King and Prince...

Winter Weekend Getaway
Published (2009-12-21 12:52:00)
I'm looking to get away for a weekend after the holidays are over. I would like to stay in the southeast and am not into outdoor winter sports like skiing. We always do Gatlinburg during the holidays so that is not good for this time. Any suggestions?

We went to Gulf Shores back in November. We had a blast. And we're going (try to go) to Chattanooga in Jan. There's New Orleans. St. Francisville,LA. (about 30 mins nirth of Baton Rouge) is nice if you like the old plantation homes. Atlanta/Stone Mountain. Other then Atlanta, these are weekend trip, DH and I have took this time of year.

Add my vote to the suggestion for Savannah, especially if you haven't been there.

I don't know where you're located but Charleston, Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach, SC, Savannah, GA or the NC Outer Banks would all be good weekend trips.

Haven't been to either of those places in so many years that I cannot help you, but please tell me about The Point near Perdido. We enjoy hole-in-the-wall places, too.

You need to go see the Opryland Hotel even if you don't stay there. It will be really decorated for Christmas. Also, the small town of Franklin on the south side of Nashville has a Dickens Christmas but I'm not sure what weekend.

I've grown up going to Chattanooga and now I'm able to take DD and DH and let them enjoy it. Chattanooga if beautiful year round but Lookout Mountain in the fall is absolutely amazing.

My friend Debbie went to India recently and she came back and organized this charity project [warning explicit lyrics]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1yinqadxuQ You can win a trip to India by donating a $20 goat here: http://www.iwantagoat.com It’s cool the site lets you pimp out your goats for extra money and give them clothes and stuff (not the real goats, just the online versions), and...
