also consider a graphics accelerator card with it's own on-board ram and make sure your power supply is sufficient to the task of any add-on peripherals. you did say you were building your cpu from basic components. so you're on the right track to making an optimal music production tool.

Ian, that's the problem. You can't hope that a not so good mix to start with, done through headphones, will sound remotely good when you compress the file into mp3 format. You need to have a good balanced mix to start with. Very few people can mix well through headphones. And those who do, have been doing it for many many years, and first developed their ear through monitors. I know of one dude who can mix well through headphones,...

Needed? No. Desirable? Yes, because it will free up some RAM used by the onboard video.

If it does, then I'd recommend one, especially for the fact they're under a hundred for an OK card - and help with system memory. The montherboard I ordered is the ASUS p6T LGA 1366 Intel X58. Ok well it looks like I can use the video card from my other computer that just crashed. Thanks guys.

Let me start off by saying to both of you, thank you very, very much. I just uploaded a new song andi ts by far a better production work then anything ive done so far. Unfortunatly im still stuck with my headphones, being that im in the US at the moment and not my home. But im getting the idea of it and slowly getting a grip. Both of your comments have helped me a lot... and I appreciate you guys hearing my music, its nice to know you guys...

Hello Larry! Thanks for the clues. Don't you think its sometimes absolutely necessary to roll some bass off or compress vocals a bit? In my opinion it won't sound any good if you mix everything with no effects. Reverb? I think you can make song with no reverb. But compressors and EQ are neceassary... Regards Luke

Hi, Ian. Doesn't your computer have the software to convert your music files to Mp3's? My windows media player does. And I'll guess most computers today have that technology already in them. When I first started converting my wav song files to mp3s I noticed a pretty substantial reduction of tones. But I really don't anymore, and I don't use any fancy converter...just the one in ...
