OK I have got the everest report and it's pasted below. I have now un-installed the realtek ac'97 stuff because it simply didn't work. it was just a random throw of the dice because i don't know what i'm doing and i was sure it was realtek ac'97 that was installed previously. the on-board sound hardware is apparently broken according to the shop i took it to a while back - that's why they installed a sound...

Thanks very much for taking the time to help me. I downloaded the driver ok and the yellow triangle has gone from beside conexant however I still have no sound. I restarted my laptop and got a message "cannot access volume control" . You don't happen to have anymore recommendations for me do you? I do apprecate all you help

Im running an old HP Pavilion 511w, Unfortunately from what i can tell there is no driver supplied by hp for the sound. I havn't looked however im pretty sure it's an integrated sound card so one would think they would have the driver for the sound card they put into their computer... anyway i had to wipe it, had ubuntu for a while, wanted to play games again, found a download and got xp home im short a sound driver... Belarc says......

XPpro/SP3/IE8 I have found that the installation of .net Framework 1.1 results in having to sign in with username/password. There seem to be no escape from this even if it is un-installed. So I have had to re-install XPpro and avois .net Fameworl 1.1 and install .net Framework 3.5 which does not cause this problem and which I use for Nero 9,

Thanks so much for posting this cure. I've deal with this issue for the better part of a year now. Fortunately, it happened on a computer I don't use too much.
Not sure what caused the issue in the first place.
Ran the three lines and all is well now.
BTW - I googled "microsoft explorer search inop" if that helps anyone else find this thread..

Hi, you need to go into the bios as your hard drive is not being seen. Once
in the bios you need to detect your hard drive, if you dont have the manual
please post model and number so we can get it of the net.

AutoSketch program gets "insufficient virtual memory" error message. Never happened before. Computer showed it had plenty of unused memory. Added RAM. Now I get " insufficient memory" error. Recently I had added a 2nd User acct. I opened AutoSketch from it and it worked perfectly. I need to be able to use it from my acct. What's the problem?

I have the same problem with the xp boot. Mine is different in that I can get online in safe mode with networking after several try's but cant accsess my cdrom drives. They wont do anything and their not even aknowleged in "my computer" ect. I have most of the files I want to keep on a external so I dont mind reformatting the whole thing and starting over but I can't even get the disc drives to ...
