Most likely a sticking float. Very common on the Q-Jets. Try tapping the carb near the fuel inlet when it happens. If it clears up,it's the float and\or needle and seat sticking.

My first summer job (as a timber cruiser) as a university student in 1983 saw me assigned a 1-ton crew cab with the same power train. The truck was an '81, with 250,000 miles, the engine was refreshed when I got it. That 292's low rpm torque took us places in that truck that amazed us. Several times, we didn't get back out, but the one guy that I "borrowed" the Timberjack skidder from understood when I chatted...

Steering box Frame Brace I suggest. JC Whitney has them, Item# ZX815940U, click the link at the top of this page, and type in the number. Add a leafs will take care of the rest. Jerre will fix you up. Unlike the new mounts, yours will go back further on the frame, giving it more strength. Plan on a helper leaf in the rear for the ballast you are going to need. ~Chuck

One of my favorite GM body styles is the 67-72 trucks. I have an opportunity to buy a 68 K-20 with a 292 and a 4 speed. Now for my question. I know with the granny gear and the torque of the inline six (with the proper build) will provide decent plowing power. That being said I want to put an 810 on the front of this beast. Will the frame hold up? Keep in mind I will have the cab off of the frame, and yes this thing needs alot of new sheet...

One thing and again iam sure Jerre can fix you up is the older trucks have a narrow frame meaning less material coupled with aging i would probley want to beef the horns up. My 60 Ford would be more than capable with a 810 but it would need front frame boxing/ beefing keep in mind at least with my old truck it came with a 7 ft non angle plow still has the frame brackets on it. Has for the powerplant no problem the 292 was a work horse dont let...

Of the Cheve's that's my favorite body style. The guys are right on the frame width and strength. JC Whitney has a great steering box frame update that is a MUST DO. Beyond that changing out the front springs and you can hang pretty much anything off of it. I'd think of a back blade for it too. Check the front and rear tags. You may be surprised and find limited slip on front and rear. Congrats on the find. PICTS......J

Just joined the site. I have been plowing for a few years, mix of small commercial and residential. I am the process of rebuilding a 1981 K20. I purchased it last fall, the previous owner put the TBI 350 in. I always wanted a solid axle Chevy, but really like EFI. 1987s are almost impossible to get, so I figured I better grab this truck. I knew the body wasn't much when I bought it. I ...

I have a 77 GMC with a 454 and a 4bbl Rochester Quadrajet that is running rich. I installed a heat shield a few weeks ago and for awhile it ran fine but suddenly it started running rich and keeps cutting out. What should I look to adjust on this to make it run at the proper mixture?

Guy's the old 86 is going on to the big snow pile in the sky. The cost of fixing her is expensive and don't have the capital to do it. So the company I work for is going to finance me to buy a newer one. Pay back is in exchange for plowing their parking lot and house to pay back the loan. Usually cost them about 1200 bucks a year, not bad terms. Have about 5-7 grand to spend. What would you guy's...
